Well that loser is putting together an incredibly solid class right now despite the on-field struggles and while there were predictions this class would fall apart we have 3 commits this week and vibes strong on a couple more 4 stars. Signing day is a week from now. I will predict now they kill portal just like Hubert did.
Could be a nice foundation for the next coach

He’s not a loser because of his recruiting. He’s a loser because of how he treated people and how he continues to treat people. Several folks with whom I was close during my days in the program and have remained close since, folks who have given everything they have to Carolina Football for years and who worked spanning multiple coaching staffs, were summarily fired and told to get out of the building because they didn’t know what they were doing- these are folks with years and even decades worth of deep institutional knowledge UNC, deep pride and passion for UNC Football, deep knowledge of and relationships with all sorts of important people across the state, and they were told to go to hell by an arrogant blowhard who failed miserably at every job he’s ever had. He could pull in the number one ranked recruiting class for the next five consecutive years and he is still a loser who treats good people poorly.

As for the actual recruiting itself, we’re recruiting fine. It’s solid. I’m even willing to grant that it is good under the circumstances of how horrific the product on the field is. We are not recruiting gangbusters by any stretch of the imagination. We have about the same number of blue chip players that we have always recruited no matter who the head coach is, and we’ve got a bunch of mid grade 3 star players. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a very solid recruiting class. But I hope people will forgive me for curbing my enthusiasm until we see this big brain strategy of turning over our entire roster yet again actually pan out. Realize that touting the supposed improvement and development you think you may have seen over the course of this season, and recognize that it’s all for naught if we don’t actually have a plan to retain and continue to develop those guys. We are going to be right back in the same situation a year from now, staring down the barrel of a losing season, because we thought that trying to build a completely new roster from scratch for the second consecutive of year was the way to go.

I want this to work out. Period. Point blank. Full stop. But I am in 100% “shut the hell up and show me” mode at this point, and will continue to be because this staff completely forfeited the entire last off-season when they were running around bragging about their big NFL brains and UNC being the 33rd NFL organization, etc. etc. I just want to see results. And I’m going to continue to be critical of a strategy that I personally believe is not going to yield results, until I am improving otherwise wrong. And trust me, I desperately want to be proven otherwise wrong. I want all of y’all to be able to come here a year from now and watch me eat crow. Believe that.

BB gets third commit this week. DB Peterson. High 3 star. Offers from PSU Clemson and Georgia.
Was committed to PSU, and it came down to us vs Clemson - gotta like that.

I have to assume BB is planning on playing frosh all over the secondary. We have 11 db's committed unless Jaden plays WR.

Darien Lewis
David Davis
Jaden Jefferson
Jakob Weatherspoon
Jamarrion Gordon
Jaziel Hart
Julian Burns
Julian Peterson
Keegan Chapman
Kenton Dopson
Xavier Jackson

I know I’m beating a dead horse here but if that truly is his strategy, to play a bunch of 18 year-old freshmen all over the field, we are going to be right back here a year from now sitting at 4-8. It goes without saying that I would love to be wrong.

There is the portal.

Yeah, I’m doing the $1 thing right now but the moment that ends, I’m ending it. I get all of the UNC news and discussion here that I could possibly want, and get to do it with people who aren’t emotionally stunted goobers unable to handle criticism of multi-million dollar coaches without hurling insults and questioning someone’s fandom.

They’re mad at Don because he ended up being right about what a garbage recruiting strategy that blowhard Lombardi had coming in last year.
There are a handful of people on IC that are just digging in defending any criticism of Belichick or Lombardi tooth in nail. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I really wouldn’t be surprised if some of them are actually associated with the program or BB/Lombardi in some way lol.

Right. My theory is that they feel the portal is unpredictable without big $, and since corners are SOMETIMES ready for PT as true frosh they're throwing secondary shit against the wall to save $ for QB, linebackers, OL and SSDE. If true, it seems they hoping to get some contribution from rookie Safeties too.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I just don't remember it being this toxic even when things ent way south under Mack or Fedora.

Trying to be charitable here since I spend plenty of time being critical. If that is indeed their strategy with regard to defensive backs specifically, while I don’t necessarily agree with it, it’s at least one of those things where if you have a really really good defensive line and good linebackers, you can mask a whole lot of things – especially youth and an experience – in the secondary as long as the players in the secondary are athletic. So if they are indeed trying to save money in the portal, defensive back is a good place to try to save IMO

I really can’t imagine looking at Lombardi’s resume and hearing all of the buffoonish things he says and still defending the guy. It cracks me up thinking about how all of the stuffy boosters reacted when that asinine 76ers process manifesto hit their email inbox lol. They deserve it though for signing off on him.

It’s so embarrassing that he’s associated with UNC and getting paid like 3x the amount of any other college GM. What a joke.

Confirmation bias and tribalism work both ways, sometimes it feels like Sally Brown is posting too.

There’s also an obvious underlying political component to the Bellichick thing that has made it pretty polarizing. That, and Bellichick himself is polarizing
The political nature of the hire really is the elephant in the room. It’s a big part of why people are so divided on it, but on IC everyone has to dance around that part without ever fully addressing it directly.

There were essentially no Mack Brown defenders left at the end, and most of the people anti-Bellichick, were anti-Mack early on. For example, I thought Mack should have been done have the disastrous 21 season, or after the embarassing end to 22, and definitely after whatever the fuck happened at the end of 23.

It’s interesting, while I will never ever be his biggest fan (and that predates his time at UNC by many years), it’s not even Belichick himself that has most of my ire. It’s Lombardi. His buffoonish arrogance and hubris cost a lot of good people their jobs and completely decimated a serviceable collegiate roster and left us with an absolute dumpster fire of a season. Granted, I know that he is Bill‘s lapdog, but I truly believe Bill has zero interest in the actual front office machinations and wants to do nothing but teach and coach, and has foolishly left a ton in the hands of a guy like Lombardi who is a totally clueless charlatan.

Speaking of, I find it embarrassing that nobody at UNC had the balls to tell Belichick, “I don’t give a damn if you don’t want to do the coaches radio show, you are doing it, you’re not sending your gopher boy to do it in your stead.”

It’s such an interesting point that I had not considered for some weird reason. But I am now considering it.

Oh my goodness, same here. 100%. Obviously nobody is going to do this, nor should they, but if anyone was able to go back in the archives and read the IC football board in November 2018, I was absolutely apoplectic about the Mack Brown hire for many of the exact same reasons I was about the Bill Belichick hire. I may be vocal and I may be incredibly annoying, but I’m consistent!

In fact, when we took a knee at midfield on fourth down in the opening game against South Carolina in Charlotte in 2019 that gave them a decent chance at beating us on a Hail Mary, I was about ready to fire him after game one.
