Who is returning in our 2-deep?
If you mean returning from our 2-deep, based on the guys who have said they're entering the portal (though hopefully McVay comes back for cheap, House too), i think it is:

WR-X Alex Taylor (started vs dook)
WR-Z Shanard Clower (started vs State) OR Tucker, Madrid FR
WR-SL Shipp, Jordan SO Leacock, Nathan RS SO/TR
LT Hall, Jordan RS SO/TR
LG Banfield, Aidan SO
C Maybe Kelly, Christo RS SR/TR if he gets a waiver.
RG
RT
TE Cox, Connor JR/TR
QB Lopez, Gio RS SO/TR
RB June, Demon FR, Hall, Benjamin RS SO/TR

LDE Mupoyi, Joseph RS SO/TR
NT Robinson, D'Antre SO/TR Johnson, Isaiah RS JR/TR
DT Mims, CJ RS JR/TR Jackson, Leroy RS FR
RDE Abou-Jaoude, Melkart RS JR/TR Thompson, Tyler RS SO
WLB House played entire games, it didn't feel like there was a second-string for WLB.
MLB
LCB Patterson, Jaiden RS FR
SS Bryson, Coleman RS JR/TR OR Javion Butts
FS Smith, Greg RS FR/TR
RCB Thompson, Jalon SO
NB Cost, Kaleb JR Miller, Tre RS SO

ETA - some of these second-stringers didn't play much, like Tre Miller, Jalon, Leacock.

I don’t doubt that Kitchens is done as OC even if it hasn’t been formally announced. Frankly it feels like he was always just a one season stop gap from the time he was named to the position.

The concern is whether or not Belichick is actively looking for a good replacement or just dragging his feet again to end up with another lackluster hire. I guess time will tell but he hasn’t exactly earned the benefit of the doubt in that regard.

Pretty good scoop by Greg Barnes.
Lopez broke his leg against state. UNC supposedly has interest in Harvard qb who hit portal. Kitchens is out. When is uncertain. Demon June is back. Looks like Shipp is too.
Really interesting in Baker. Sources say staff not high in him but there is no effort to push him out and he likes CH.
Interesting about Baker, may be hoping to compete under a real OC in chapel hill this spring or after Bill leaves this time next year

Greg's info does seem to debunk the fan theory that his family actively did not want him to play this year. It is almost certainly the case that if he doesn't leave via portal, it's exactly because he's hoping to outlast Bill.

We have three really well regarded QBs with Burgess coming in who are young. Clearly one or two will leave. That is just how things work now. I seriously doubt Baker is thinking I will hang around because BB will get fired after next year

My hunch is that the family wasn't sold on the idea of him being the first game starter and wanted him to get a little more behind the scenes seasoning, but I doubt that they didn't want him to not see the field at all. (Or they didn't before they saw the cluster that is our offense.)

But if he stays, it'll be interesting to see how it goes with him. If he's in Belichick's doghouse, he was highly-recruited enough to get a great look elsewhere, so I'd be surprised that he'd stay.

We're a "major college program" you guys. So that's pretty cool. Must be a quiet news day at SI.

There is no “at” SI. It is just a brand that has been destroyed by a series of acquisitions and is now used by unemployed (ahem, freelance) journalists to try to make enough money for the day’s Starbucks run. It is best not to read anything under that brand these days.

What good coach would take the position?

Maybe if we massively overpaid him.

That's the joke

Been my concern all along. If the best hire that Belichick could manage last season was Kitchens, how is he going to improve on that now that he’s another year older and also gave potential candidates a full season of evidence that he doesn’t know what he’s doing?
