For me, Belichick’s age and overall pedigree means there’s only one year where I don’t sweat the W/L record too much: year 1.
Anything less than 9 or 10 wins in years 2 and beyond isn’t good enough. But I simply don’t think we have a roster where we can “expect” 9 or 10 this year. It could happen if a lot goes our way. But it’s certainly not the most likely outcome.
As CFord notes, the schedule in year 2 is harder than year 1. But I’ll still have higher expectations about how to define success in year 2 than I will year 1, despite the tougher schedule on paper.
If we beat TCU, things could fall into place in year 1. Not many games on the schedule yarder than that one. Clemson and maybe @ NCSU?
