lol, I think you're reaching a bit here. I've never been GOP or conservative in any way, shape, or form but I largely agree with cford. Though personally I think what mostly explains the Belichick and kids things is that Belichick truly believes, after his long career, that it doesn't matter who his assistant coaches are as long as they just do what he tells them to.
Yeah, I mean honestly, I think if my old GOP/conservative bonafides we were truly coming out in this case, I’d be doubling and tripling down on reflexive defense and support of Belichick even against all evidence. I’d be telling people to not trust their lying eyes. That’s what Republicans do.

I do think you have a good point that the answer as it relates to the nepotism and cronyism is not necessarily outright grift for grifting‘s sake, but rather unbridled arrogance on the part of Bill Belichick that he can hire anyone and do anything he wants and answers to nobody because he’s Bill Belichick and he’s the greatest football coach in the history of football coaches who ever football coached and six Super Bowls, yada yada yada.

Either way, it’s completely disqualifying for him to continue as the head football coach at North Carolina.

Hi all, long time no see. After the board switch, I told myself I wasn't going to register but this latest debacle is an incredibly depressing exemplar as a sign of the times. Unqualified hack installed in position of power breaks law and public trust to make bad (and expensive) policy, undermining all institutions and cheapening everyone involved in the process.

Hopefully the MAGA among us will have some of the scales cast from their eyes as this is close enough to hit home. This is a disgrace. I'm glad President Friday and Coach Smith weren't around to see it.

These are terrible ideas IMO. Saturday as GM is even dumber than Lombardi as GM. We need a GM who understands and has plenty of connections within the current recruiting/portal landscape. Not someone else with no knowledge parachuting in and trying to get by with catchphrases and vibes.
A Patrick Suddes or Andrew Blaylock are in chapel hill and already know about recruiting/portal landscape. I feel that stuff isn't that hard to grasp given some time. Honestly Lombo probably has learned by now, just the hard way. The rest of the GM role is being able to sell the program and sell the recruits that your analysts and scouts have ID'd, then executing the money-ball part, finally helping oversee the rest of the program ins & outs (gameday, etc).

May I ask a really weird, nitpicky question about something that has irked me and which I am fully aware stems solely from my dislike of him? But did Michael Lombardi go by the nickname “Lombo” on whatever podcasts we plucked him off of to be our GM? I’m just trying to figure out why everyone is calling him that- and again, I fully recognized that my annoyance at it is irrational and only because I don’t like him.

Grass is greener EVERYWHERE compared to what we have now, but hiring a great coach is not easy.

There were theories why BB could be a great coach. We're hearing and seeing some weaknesses as a college coach, but I think it is worthwhile to ask if he can right the ship - via portal, different OC, improvement on the field, team morale (if that is truly a problem) comms, etc.

Much of the WRAL article (and everything which is probably using the exact same sources) could easily be sourced from a few grumpy parents and Patrick Suddes or one some of the media folks in the AD dept, etc. Remember how locked-down everything became once he was hired. Don Callahan and a bunch of other people haven't been happy, or seemed a tad jaded, from the get-go.

There is clearly smoke, and if we start losing recruits then there's definitely fire, but replacing an HC, the DC, the GM, the DB coach, and the QB coach mid-season with a great replacement is tricky. It would almost be imperative that you hire someone who can bring a great QB and players with him via portal, but that person probably isn't available right now.

Welcome back! Let’s get rowdy!

Haha I’ve actually been wondering about this too. He’s been on the Bill Simmons podcast from time to time and I don’t think I’ve ever heard him referred to as “Lombo” there, so maybe it’s just message board shorthand that someone made up. God knows that arrogant douchebag doesn’t deserve a nickname.

Oh, and I said Gundy as OC replacing K in the interim since Gundy understands big picture of a program organizationally (since rumors are there is some disorganization) and cuz Gundy is a QB and offensive-oriented guy.
The goal being to compete vs ncsu and dook enough to hopefully keep recruits, maybe get some wins.

If things are still horrid you fire BB end of November.

They won’t put it all together even though this whole shitshow was orchestrated by Republican politicians.

No way! Someone on a Bill Belichick staff playing fast and loose with the rules? You're kidding!!!!!

Shhhhhhhh! Let 'em cook!

Time to fire for cause!
The suspension has to be by UNC, not NCAA. The way it works is the schools suspends and then applies to reinstatement from the NCAA.

But surely the school knew about the sideline passes. The school has to issue them.

So, either we have an incompetent compliance department or else we decided to turn up the heat on Bill by making this a compliance issue all of a sudden. Either way, this will only motivate the N&O to dig, dig and dig some more. They love it when their reporting gets UNC to course correct. Time to get Dan Kane back on the beat!

Wait, i thought the unnamed sources from the WRAL report was garbage journalism that shouldn't be trusted. Are you saying that report said true things? Ruh roh.

N&O might still get their scalp. There will be more stories in this than state trainer fondling male athletes in open secret for years. Clearly someone inside program feeding newspaper infor. A parent got a sideline pass. The horror. Bet it's never happened before.

Personally I think trying to beat State and Duke to keep recruits is just not what our priority should be. Wins this year don't matter at this point. Keeping a solid but not spectacular recruiting class in place is next to meaningless in today's era. The key is to get people in charge who we think can lead us into a brighter future. If the admin thinks that's Belichick, then OK. If not, then make a move. But either way, bringing in an expensive outside coordinator as a bandaid to win some games this year is just pointless, IMO.
