Were those coaches also all family members and friends of the head coach and gm?
There are only three coaches that are family members or friends of the HC/GM: Brian B, Steve B, and Matt L. And I would not expect those guys to leave unless we ask them to leave. The rest will stay unless the interim wants them gone for chemistry reasons.

Remember, we also have about 10 analysts on staff who can assume additional coaching duties if a few assistants leave. At UCLA, they fired the head coach and the OC, and made the TE coach the new OC. And that worked out pretty darn well.

You might be right. I feel like a lot more coaches would leave than in the typical mid-season firing.

Also, because it worked out for UCLA for one game doesn’t mean it’s going to work for us.

Your last sentence is certainly true.

I don't think any of the non-family member coaches on staff have any unique loyalty to Belichick compared to Pry at Va Tech or Foster at UCLA or Collins at Ga Tech.

They understand firings are part of the business of coaching and aren't going to quit out of some misguided sense of loyalty. They will want to salvage the season as best they can for their own personal reputations. Obviously, they will be looking for the next job but that does not require them to quit (and lose severance) midseason.

Would imagine that IF- and because I have UNC Derangement Syndrome and just don’t trust our leaders to ever actually do the right thing the first time, I say ‘if’- but *IF* we are going to do a midseason dismissal/firing/mutual part of the ways/whatever we decide to call it, you have to imagine it will get announced either tomorrow or Friday at the latest, right? Surely this is something you do during a bye week.

I would imagine there is far too much financially on the line for UNC to just shut the season down but obviously we would probably get completely smoked every single game the rest of the way because I’m sure we would have lots of players quit. But the vast majority of the coaches on our staff, as sorry as they are, don’t have the luxury of being multi decamillionaires like Bill and will need to audition for their next jobs.
A bunch of players are seniors - the starting corners and safeties, the entire OL vs Clemson, the starting TE, 2 of the 3 LBs. A few fighting for combine spots (Thad Dixon, Blaske), a few fighting for Senior Bowl spots (Andrew Simpson, Marcus Allen, Vilbert, Yates and.... maybe Gibson or Jakai Moore or Caleb Hood, Max Johnson types who believe in themselves?).

I know if it is odd to talk about pro aspirations given how bad we've been, but kids think highly of themselves. In theory we should be playing underclassmen to build for the future, but I could see all these seniors rallying for each other in their final years if a new coach can get things organized.

I got zero idea what to believe. Clearly someone on inside is trying to take him down and feeding the media. If half what Connelly said was true BB should be gone NOW. But UC just published story calling mid season replacement unlikely. Maybe UNC is digging in this time. Crazy stuff.

Damn Donny, ffs... believe your eyes. Not saying it ALL is red letter Bible truth, but no way at least a quarter isn't, and the other half up for debate.

Sometimes we wish shit ain't what they say it is, but to paraphrase a zillion other idiots, It Is What It Is my man.

Don't tie yourself to the 'BB victim of media take down' narrative, that dog don't hunt

Two things can be true. I don't need to explain. But if Ollie is right BB got to go now. IC saying don't expect mid season fire but things fluid. I just texted a BOG member and he said would know more soon but mentioned "fake news," the idea that an insider is exaggerating stuff is easy to believe but how much? The picture painted by Ollie is almost one who has totally checked out. Supposedly BB offered to go but has not happened.

I’ve been thinking the same thing about the timing with the bye week.

At this point my speculation is that there was originally going to be a few staff firings today hence the cryptic IC reporting this morning, then things picked up to work out some sort of parting with Belichick. Obviously there would be a lot of legal details to then hash out, so everything goes dark while that’s happening, hence no new news.

If we are in fact moving on from Belichick then the best thing for the sake of the team this season would be to get it all figured out during the bye week, but I’m skeptical that it’ll happen that quickly. Still it’s just hard to imagine him actually coaching next weekend now that everything has come to a head.

Good God, if they’re using the term “fake news” they’re pathetic
Ok. Context: this person does not know. Will met with chancellor and BOT on Wednesday but by then I am sure everyone will know a lot. I assume that is a regularly scheduled meeting I asked what was up. This person said met with BB and Lombardi months ago and they warned about "fake news." So this person did not say it was fake news. Said needed to learn more.

There will be plenty of fake news about this. Both ways. If all of what Ollie said is true and BB offered to walk why is he still the coach?
