Yeah, that first sentence is a totally fair point. But I do think you're right, there definitely seems to be something "off" more so than what would be expected to be normal.
My biggest problem with Lombardi is that he's objectively awful at his job and always has been. It would be different if he was some arrogant blowhard who had a litany of past successes to which he could point as evidence that his methods are sound. But the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots couldn't wait to kick him to the curb (the latter necessitating the owner to step in and tell Belichick that Lombardi was getting the boot), and then not one single solitary other franchise or team at any level of the sport would touch him with a ten-foot pole for well more than a decade until Belichick hired him to be our GM.
The crazy thing is, as much as I've been a very vocal critic of the Belichick hire since it was even first rumored on IC last December, I actually think that it's by no means out of the realm of possibility for Belichiick to work out "fine" here at UNC. His problem isn't that he doesn't know how to coach football anymore, but rather that he lets his arrogance, hubris, and bizarre obsession with surrounding himself with nepo gopher boys, family members, and 'yes men' undermine all of the other football expertise he brings to the table. If Belichick fails here, and it's looking more and more probable with each passing day, almost the entire reason why will be because of Michael Lombardi. It can't believe Bill is willing to have his football legacy tarnished here at the end of his career by some loser like that.
