The roster is definitely better than 24-7.What gives you any reason at all to think that better than 24-7 is realistic?

While I still think it's on the administration for holding it up, but I wonder if the staff got this approved before even starting the process at this point? Our athletic department and/or whomever is holding this up is a freakin' clown show.
He committed to us 4.5 months ago and has been in school for 2 months...we couldn't figure out whatever this is in that amount of time.
I'm just embarrassed for us.
Speculative at best, foolhardy at worst. The roster is definitely better than 24-7.
I have a feeling this is a new thing someone at the university decided to investigate at the last moment. I am sure HD and Tanner checked as many boxes as they could prior to going after Luka. But this is new territory for UNC basketball and it doesn't surprise me that UNC admin decided to UNC-ify the situation at the last minute. Why bring him in if you’re not 100% he can play. HD and Tanner should’ve verified with whoever the fuck handles this before offering him a spot and a contract.
I'll take your word for it. However I'm sure there was still some experimentation with lineups by BYU in this scrimmage as well. In any case the PG situation is still concerningThey lost against Nebraska because Kevin Young played with a lot of experimental lineups and didn’t play Dybantsa and Wright down the stretch for that game.
Overall, to lose by two to the preseason #8 team on their home court when they’ve already got a preseason game under their belt bodes pretty well for this team.
BYU played the exhibition pretty straight up. It had a March feel in the building. Neither team used the bench as much as you'd expect in an exhibition.I'll take your word for it. 24-7 would most likely be outside of the top 3 of the ACC and 6-7+ seed. This roster is better than that, even without Luka.Speculative at best, foolhardy at worst.
IC is reporting that the delay is coming from taking time to process his transcript, which makes zero sense given that he applied to school and was admitted.I have a feeling this is a new thing someone at the university decided to investigate at the last moment. There’s a potentially different level of review for admission vis-a-vis determining the exact details of every class on his transcript.IC is reporting that the delay is coming from taking time to process his transcript, which makes zero sense given that he applied to school and was admitted.
Would UNC not know the exact details of credits, course completions, etc., before offering admission and then acceptance? There’s a potentially different level of review for admission vis-a-vis determining the exact details of every class on his transcript.
But it does seem like something that could have been handled in the almost 5 months since he committed to us.
I’m not sure that, given the intricacies of an international transcript mixing with NCAA regulations, that you could pre-approve every bit of the process before needing to move forward with having Luka come to campus & starting other processes. While I still think it's on the administration for holding it up, but I wonder if the staff got this approved before even starting the process at this point?
When your dealing with potential transfer credits, especially from institutions where there aren’t common course definitions/parameters between schools, it’s not uncommon for it to take some in-depth investigation to determine if a course credit can transfer (and in what way, such as actual class credit vs general hour credit). I’ve heard directly from students/their immediate families of having a college go through the class syllabus from the former college (both within the US) to determine if/how a particular class may/will transfer.Would UNC not know the exact details of credits, course completions, etc., before offering admission and then acceptance?
That’s why there are agencies who do this legwork for American universities. I’ve worked with many students whose entire transcripts are from China or India or many other places. International students are required to submit transcripts for evaluation. Once it’s been “translated” to American credits then it would be up to UNC in this case to equate individual courses to internal courses. There should be a database that exists that pre converts the vast majority. A school the size of UNC likely has someone who has already attended before you that’s taken just about everything you have. Have they had a student from the same Serbian college take the same sequence of classes? Probably not, but the worst thing that SHOULD happen is that the dept of his major might want to look at syllabi and split hairs over what specific courses in their discipline they want to force someone to retake because another school didn’t meet standards for some reason. But again, there is no way this should take 5 months. Especially for a high profile case. 2 weeks? Maybe. When your dealing with potential transfer credits, especially from institutions where there aren’t common course definitions/parameters between schools, it’s not uncommon for it to take some in-depth investigation to determine if a course credit can transfer (and in what way, such as actual class credit vs general hour credit). I can only imagine how difficult some of those things are to determine from classes from a college in Serbia (as I believe that’s where he attended college).
But none of that make sense from an eligibility point of view. Unless they are claiming that he is not a HS graduate. Who cares what classes transferred. It is not as though he will be graduating from UNC. That stuff could get ironed out later. It shouldn’t affect eligibility. When your dealing with potential transfer credits, especially from institutions where there aren’t common course definitions/parameters between schools, it’s not uncommon for it to take some in-depth investigation to determine if a course credit can transfer (and in what way, such as actual class credit vs general hour credit). Ben said there’s nothing pointing to it coming from them.If the Chancellor and BOT want to tinker with athletics, the Luka situation would seem to present itself as such an opportunity.
