There's a reason why State's fanbase and MAGA Nation overlap so much - they have a very similar pattern of hatred and resentment and jealously of people they secretly may feel inferior to, and thus want to hurt and punish and humiliate all they can. In the case of Trumpers it's hate and resentment of "elites" with college and graduate degrees who they feel look down on them, in the case of State it's hatred, resentment, and jealously of UNC for owning them in so many sports for so many years and being far more relevant and popular nationally than they have ever been since 1957, even in their heyday in the 70s with David Thompson. I've read that one reason Sloan left State was because even with a national title he still wasn't as popular or respected as Dean Smith.

Which explains why Doeren has been able to keep his job despite never making State a power in the ACC, much less nationally. He's beaten us on a fairly regular basis, including four years in a row now, and he always rubs it in and gloats after every victory, which is what they really care about. It's the same as after Trump's wins - it gives his followers a chance to gloat and trash-talk liberal "elites". So State fans do crap like planting their flag on our field and Dave does some trash-talking after each win and they lap it up. I'm sure that Wade will be no different - if they do beat us I fully expect lots of postgame trashing of our program and school and no class or grace whatsoever from Wade or his team. It's the key to keeping your job at State - beat our teams fairly regularly and then rub it in as much as possible.

Lololololol just catching up on this thread. JFC, could Will Wade and his players allow UNC to reside rent free inside their heads any more than they currently are? Good Lord, they are thinking and talking about UNC in the media more than UNC is thinking and talking about UNC.

If we limp into the tournament with like a 7 or 8 seed or worse I think Hubert would almost definitely get fired, barring a serious run once we get into the tournament.
Agree. This Is obviously a make or break year for HD. I think being a top 25 team throughout the year is what he needs to survive.

It's pretty simple. This season is a make-or-break for UNC coach Hubert Davis. The Tar Heels surprisingly heard their name called on Selection Sunday this past spring after finishing the regular season 22-13 with just one win (UCLA) over a ranked opponent. By sneaking in as one of the last teams in the field, North Carolina avoided missing the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons under Davis. Regardless, that standard isn't acceptable for a program of its stature.

North Carolina's frontcourt of Caleb Wilson -- a projected lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft -- and Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar will be its greatest strength heading into the season. However, I think it's more likely that North Carolina finishes unranked than higher than 25. Obviously, I am not a voter in the poll, but it wouldn't be surprising if in-state foe NC State, under first-year coach Will Wade, had a better season than UNC. NC State received the most votes in the poll without being ranked.

As an aside, “6/7” has been banned at my kids’ school. It gets that overused. I can’t think of another non-derogatory slang term that has been banned by a school.
Not to derail the thread but of interest:

“… Now teachers avoid breaking kids into groups of six or seven, or asking them to turn to page 67, or instructing them to take six or seven minutes for a task. Six is a perfect number, and seven is a prime number, but only a glutton for punishment would put them together in front of a bunch of 13-year-olds.…” [side note: 6 + 7 =13 ahhhhh]
