I think the Heels showed they have the talent to hang with good teams and have a chance to win. The lack of a good big is concerning, but maybe they can be okay using Washington and Lubin. They need to bring the defense like they did the second half to combat the lack of a true big. And need to make better decisions at the end. Withers had a crucial turnover when the Heels were up 4 with about 3 minutes to go. And I know he and Washington can hit 3s, but I don't think those are the ones who should take them at the end of games when there is still time on the shot clock. The guards were doing a great job of getting to the basket and drawing fouls. That is what really got the Heels back in the game.

Wow. What a performance by the Heels.

If Kansas is #1 the Heels are a true contender.

Sloppy finish but I don’t mind those shots at the end. That’s what KU gave them. Those guys can make them.
They can’t, that’s why KU gave them. That said, good overall game against #1 in a hostile arena.

I can’t remember the last time we lost and I came out of it feeling OK. To lose by three to the number one team in the country in their very packed house? With RJ ice cold? I’ll take it. I had no idea what was going on at halftime but credit to those boys for putting it together in the second half. 🩵🩵

This^^^ is the proper take from tonight, if you're a Tar Heel fan. Thank you Charlotte

I was incredibly pleased with the fight of the Heels in the second half. I did immediately think "Bama" game after they went up by four with about 3.5 minutes to go...and then Withers had the turnover (but he made shot great plays leading up to that point, so you can't be too upset). Freshmen contributed in hostile environment in their second game. All in all, I'm really optimistic for this team and this year. Having said all of that, jeez that atmosphere looked freaking awesome.

Oh yeah, I fucking love Lubin's game. I said it before, but something about him brings me back to Hicks' game.

Your last sentence explains it. For me a close game is stressful.

These last two weeks my stress is through the roof, dad died, brother is a piece of shit, trying to take care of my mother, election, work, reviews, project behind, project manager that's a nit picking (*&^)* micro manager, I'm just mentally worn out, the added stress would make it not fun for me.

I'll watch it tomorrow, knowing the outcome, it will not be stressful.

But, I do hope you enjoyed it as everyone else that watched it live.

My wife and I just went on a nice long drive.

Sorry to hear all of that... hopefully there's a turn for the better soon. Game is a definitely worth watch/re-watch

Just meant a game @ #1 Kansas in November is all the positives of cbball and little downside. Of course you want to win but it really is the kind of game that's a win win

Now if it was a game in March or a duke game I'd feel different lol

It was the second game of the season.

We were playing the number 1 team in the country on the road.

They were noticeably bigger than us at almost every position.

Our 1st team AA had a bad shooting night and we lost by 3.

It remains wild to me that anyone can be negative about things like this.

playing in that atmosphere and being down bigly in the first have, we could have thrown in the towel. Credit the staff and team for the fight in the 2nd half.

The first half didn’t surprise me, given their size, experience, the environment, etc.

The second half is what surprised me. The grit, rebounding, attacking the paint, perimeter D… very pleasantly surprised. This is the best kind of loss, especially so early. They leveled up, and now know that they are capable of beating anyone anywhere.

That said, unless you’re out of timeouts, there’s no excuse for RJ not getting shots or even touches in the last couple minutes. Don’t give me “the game dictates it” and “those guys are capable” or whatever b.s. You have a first team All American with tons of experience in those situations — you call a timeout and devise a way to get him the ball and get him a look. Period. I love HD, and all due credit for whatever light he turned on at halftime… but he squarely owns that ending too.

Davis had the ball in hands he couldn’t make it happen. I doubt the plan was to go away from RJ. He was also 3-15.

The game dictates the looks. It’s not like he’s MJ out there doing what he wants.

I beg to differ. If I had the choice between the guy with the hot hand and the guy struggling, what happened last year isn't going to weigh on me that much. I'm going to go that way, sure, but not to the point of forcing him to take a bad shot when he's having a bad night. We got good shots from players who can make them.

RJ is one of the premiere shot makers in the country. You ride or die with him regardless of 3-15 or 0-20. The only way you don’t call a timeout to draw him up a play is if he already has the ball in his hands.

The only silver lining is that those guys now have some more experience with taking big time shots.

But there’s no excuse for not drawing up a play and getting RJ the ball while sitting on a timeout. Especially with HD being as good as he is with a clipboard.
