Possessions last 3:30 up 4

Withers turnover
RJ missed lay in
J Wash made lay in
Withers missed corner 3
J Wash missed corner 3
Cadeau missed 3

The turnover/RJ miss back to back were killer. RJ definitely should've had the ball or a look on that last possession
Not necessarily what you want but the corner 3s were decent looks. Have to credit Kansas defense late

Then why even draw up plays in timeouts at all?

HD: “Sorry gang, the game dictates the looks! Go on out there and see what happens! Fingers crossed!”
Just like in football. You discuss your primary options and your check offs if that is covered. That's how quarterbacks try to avoid throwing into double coverage.

And when exactly did they discuss this? During the timeout they didn’t call?

During every practice that they've ever had. When you have essentially the best back court in the country, that should be sufficient. Taking a TO gives both teams time to plan. If we don't , they have to guess how to respond to something we've planned since the first practice.

Many drawn up plays don’t come to fruition. There are always options.

You don’t really want a “Take ‘em Trajon!” situation do you?

If you have a dominant player who can get what they want then plan a has a better chance of being followed.

I just don’t believe Hubert didn’t have RJ taking the shot high up
on the play tree.

The way I look at it is like this: you're on the road at what is in reality likely truly the #1 team in the nation (at least early season) in an incredibly hostile environment, and you find yourself down 20 with basically half a new team. You easily could've folded it up and said let's just go back home and figure this out later. But you didn't. You figured it out in real time. Just came up a little short.

That ability will be needed come March, and I'm encouraged by last night.

Dean Smith had Michael Jordan and still called a timeout.

Phil Jackson had Michael Jordan and still called a timeout.

Call a timeout and get it into your AA’s hands. Period.

Okay, you win. When you send around your petition citing this as the reason for demanding his resignation ,I'll sign it. I had thought previously that reasonable minds could disagree.

Remind me again what your coaching record is?

Something unreasonable about my stance? Or do you just go to extremes when you’re flustered, talking ridiculously about resignations and posters’ coaching records.

I’m co-signing Dean Smith’s and Phil Jackson’s coaching records. I’ll take those and put them against anyone’s.

I'll say one last thing. Others may well disagree, but I think this was one of those rare losses where it feels more like a win. And I'm not on any Kansas boards, but if I was a Kansas fan, that to me would be like one of those rare wins where it feels more like a loss. They have to be discomforted by how their team let a 20 point lead slip away at home and easily could have lost had just one or two things worked out differently.

I’ve never witnessed such a hostile (in a good way) environment this early in the season. Our new players usually build up to our game in Durham by road games at other ACC games. This game was like being shot out of a cannon on Nov 8! I think the team responded very well.

That crowd was raucous.

As far as the timeout goes, I think it's better to go ahead and have the play in mind and work on it in practice for those end of game situations and push the ball up the court for the last shot instead of calling a timeout and giving the other team a chance to defend it. Of course, that means they have to execute the play properly without calling a timeout to go over it beforehand.

If we call a TO, Kansas likely fouls us before we can get off a three-point shot.

Eh, it feels like a loss. Agree with you that it’s a great learning loss. Also Kansas has to feel at least a little good about their end of game play the last 3 minutes, which snuffed out momentum.

If there is truly such a thing as a "moral loss" in sports, that was it. But you're right: a win is a win, and a loss is a loss. And we lost.

Been meaning to ask you: what is your avatar? Looks like Morgan Freeman, but I can't tell.

I’m going to make a request under the assumption that we are actual UNC fans here.

Let’s keep things as friendly and civil here as possible. It’s okay if we don’t agree but we’re all pulling in the same direction.

I’m going to hold myself accountable on this front as well.

Go Heels!

I couldn't agree more, Bigs. But did you mean to quote me? I've been completely civil here and elsewhere. Scratching my head, if otherwise.
