If that is true than we are in even more trouble than it appears now. If we are offering big money and still not getting the players we want you have to ask why aren’t the players coming here?
I have no idea. They usually don't give the reason why a player decided to go elsewhere, if they are even told.

If NIL really is the problem then, how will revenue shares help? UNC is not the only university that will get that money. In fact, won't everyone who opts in get that revenue, in essence just raising the baseline of every program? Those spending more on NIL deals will continue to spend more than UNC.
Not everyone will be able to raise the revenue we will because of our brand.

But can't we already do that then? I guess I just don't see how, if we're trailing others in NIL money, we'll suddenly no longer be trailing them if you give every school an extra 22 million. To me, we'd have x + 22 million, while another school will have y + 22 million. If x < y then how will x + 22 million > y + million? That money will just raise the baseline of every school...basically meaning NIL offers will go up accordingly, and schools with y will outbid schools with x.

I am not an expert. But my understanding is we will be able to compete at the top with revenue sharing and yes, we still need to raise nil money through donations etc. But most schools will not match us in the revenue sharing be side

That it’s accurate.
I could be wrong about him saying too, but I think I read that. To be honest with you, I hope it's accurate. I think it will be easier to make a change in pitch than it will be to make a change in the amount of NIL (relative to the other big time teams).

I must not be understanding the situation then. Hopefully I don't, and you are right.

The cap is in revenue sharing. Most schools will not max out. UNC should. That is my understanding. Again I am not expert. We will still have to step up on nil donations

Regular season was excellent but underperformed in the postseason.

We've basically had one good regular season (last year) and one good postseason (2022) in the past five years and this year isn't looking so hot either.
I won’t disagree that we underperformed in that we were a 1-seed and lost in the Sweet 16, but it wasn’t like we were beat in a major upset. We lost by 2 points to a very good Alabama team. It happens. People have fond memories of UNC basketball under Dean Smith, but from 1970 through 1980, outside of 1972 and 1977, we had only one NCAAT win (not counting a consolation game win in 1975). We lost the first round of NCAAT games in which we played in 1976, 1978, 1979, and 1980 (which technically was the second round, as we had first round byes). Then from 1983 through 1990, despite having some great teams with great players, we never reached a Final Four.

Strength of schedule.

I also think this team could still be good and finish well.
only matters if you win a few. so far we haven't. Really need to beat Florida, Dook and Louisville to have a chance.

This is carolina blue sugar coating at its finest. Id say all those underperforming teams in tourney were over-ranked and under-coached. Dean Smith did less with more in tourney thru-out his entire career. Its ok to admit that even as a huge Dean fan.

Last yr was a huge disappointment other than the two dook wins.....you can sugar coat that dismal tourney run all you wish.

I don’t think it’s true that most schools won’t max out the revenue share. I think it is a forgone conclusion that every single SEC and every single Big 10 team will, and most ACC teams and Big 12 teams probably will as well. I certainly believe that UNC will grant up to the maximum allowable, but I think anyone expecting the revenue share to be a magic elixir to what currently ails us athletically may be disappointed. Until or unless UNC is in the SEC or the Big 10, the media rights discrepancy will continue to be a major albatross for us and every other ACC program. The league going 2-20 or whatever it is thus far in the season isn’t an accident or a fluke, unfortunately.

In Hubert's defense he saw what this team's weakness was before the season started and tried to bring in a competent big man but couldn't get any to commit
That's not saying much. After five years of Bacot even my 88 year-old mother knew we needed a competent big man this year. IC was reporting our NIL game was fine according to sources but ended up walking it back some in August. Turns out NIL wasn't so hot. Is that Hubert's fault? Maybe partly, he certainly felt some pressure because he made a pitch to some big donors that he needed help after striking out so badly in the portal.

How is Duke managing to continue to get great additions? Is there NIL program that much better than UNC’s program? If so, why?

I kinda hope it’s the opposite actually. Imo, UNC has done a pretty poor job of marketing and streamlining their NIL fundraising relative to a lot of other programs. I think there’s a lot of room to grow there.

The biggest value prop that coaches like Scheyer and Hubert have is their deep connection to the program and ability to sell that angle to the top recruits. If we’re already competitive with NIL and the best players still don’t want to play for UNC, that’s a major indictment of Hubert.

The fact that he came out before the season “sounding the alarm” about NIL suggests that it is a big part of the problem, but he still should be shouldering the blame for how bad the team has looked so far. The team has flaws, but definitely should not be .500 right now. They look poorly coached.
