Same story in almost every loss. RJ struggles. We struggle to guard. Get back in it and then just make awful, boneheaded plays down the stretch.

The offense makes no sense. They struggle for 20 seconds and then go 1v1. What are we trying to do?

Around the 3-minute mark: UNC down 1. Louisville misses a close range shot. Withers is in perfect rebounding position but he mistimes his jump (a common theme with him). He watches the ball fall instead of going after it— just stands there— and a Louisville player gets the offensive rebound. Lubin then fouls a guy shooting a very long 3-pointer. That guy hits all 3 of his free throws. It was all downhill from there.
It was a perfect clinic on how not to play down the stretch.

Quick question, how many shots to Ian have in the last five minutes? Any guesses?

Spoiler alert...how the fuck can HD not insist that he gets some shots? He's (currently) our best offensive player. It's mind boggling.

Really, Carolina basketball has been down overall since the 2019-2020 season. If they miss the tournament this year it would really be the third out of the last six years. The other three years they were on the bubble two of them, losing in the first round one of those years, and losing to a lower seed last year.

Roy's last two seasons were bad. They would have missed the 2020 tournament and barely made the 2021 tournament only to lose in the first round. Beating Duke at Cameron in K's last game there and the tournament run was great Hubert's first year. Until then the season wasn't good, though, and they probably wouldn't have made the tournament if they didn't beat Duke at Cameron. Missed the tournament the next year, but did win the ACC regular season tournament last season. Then they lost to a lower seed in the tournament. It isn't the consistency that Carolina basketball is known for. I know things are different in the world of college sports, but that still doesn't mean Carolina should just settle for where they have been the last 6 years. No one is going to be a great program if they settle.

You don’t need to post this after every loss

I've decided to check out this basketball season - our team is clearly flawed - hopefully we will be better next season - now I just hope dook doesn't win it all

Carolina simply can’t keep any team from scoring.

This was our 2nd lowest offensive output all year. 70 lousy points.
68 is the lowest, in a win against GaTech.

If you can’t keep the other team from scoring, you damn well better put up more than 70 pts.

Another long season ahead.

I don't know how they score as much as they usually do without getting a lot of turnovers and getting a bunch of transition baskets. The halfcourt offense is terrible, yet they still average over 80 a game. Guess it says a lot about the talent of RJ, Trimble, Cadeua, Jackson and Powell. Imagine if they ran an actual offensive scheme instead of just shooting 3s and going one on one all the time.

Season’s not over yet, but this one very well may be lining up to make the bottom 5 Tar Heel seasons of my years of watching. I can’t imagine any season being worse than 2002, though 2020 came close (I guess it’s something about having two 2s and teo 0s in the year). I have a tough time deciding whether it should be 2023 or 2010 to go in the bottom 3 behind 2002 and 2020, but I think I might go with 2023 considering the preseason expectations and the overall disappointment. So 2010 after that, followed by 2003 (which at least had its moments and reasons to feel good about the future).

Funny to think that before 2002, the bottom 5 probably would have been 1990 (when we reached the Sweet 16 and swept Duke), 1999 (when we finished the season ranked #13, but got swept by Duke in 3 games and ended the season with a first round NCAAT loss), 2000 (when we reached the Final Four, but after a very rough season), 1996 (when we finished the season ranked in the top 25 and swept Duke), and 2001 (when we won 16 games in a row, including a win at Duke, and finished the season ranked #6, but really fizzled out in the end).

Just a matter of time. The HD experiment will be coming to an end shortly. I have a huge problem with people not earning a position so it cant come quick enough.

2010 at least had the afterglow of the 2009 title to help endure that season.

Think about it: It’s Jan 2nd and the Carolina basketball season is essentially over. I suppose the team could catch lighting and go on a run but I’m not counting on it.

The results are even worse than they seem when you dig into the actual flow of these games

In 320 mins this year (2-6) vs likely/possible NCAAT teams how many mins have they actually led?

4 pt leads over Kansas/Florida might be their biggest/only multiple possession leads of the year vs quality teams

Couldn't build leads even in the games they won
