“… At least 40 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed in the attack, according to a senior Venezuelan official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe preliminary reports. More than 150 U.S. aircraft were dispatched to knock out air defenses, so that military helicopters could deliver the Special Operations forces who assaulted Mr. Maduro’s compound at 2 a.m. local time, U.S. officials said. The whole operation took two hours and 20 minutes.…”

Trump Wants to Unlock Venezuela’s Oil Reserves. A Huge Challenge Awaits.

The president wants to put Venezuela’s viscous crude into play. The problem is the world doesn’t have much appetite for more oil.

“… But getting foreign companies to flock back to Venezuela will be a massive challenge. Chevron is the only major U.S. oil company there and is the country’s largest foreign investor. Other oil executives will be forced to gauge the stability on the ground in a country where the industry has fallen into disarray after more than two decades of mismanagement and corruption.

The other obstacle facing Trump’s effort to put more of Venezuela’s viscous crude into the global market is that the world doesn’t have much of an appetite for more oil. U.S. oil prices are languishing below $60 a barrel, a level that discourages investment for most American producers. Global supplies are expected to continue rising this year.

“One thing that works against it is the price of oil,” said Ali Moshiri, the former head of Chevron’s operations in Latin America and Africa. “In the environment we’re in, if you’re going to invest, do you put it in the Permian [Basin in the U.S.] or do you put it in Venezuela? That’s going to be a tough choice.” …”

What a great day. Today may be a Berlin Wall moment for this Hemisphere. If the US can ally with the country with the world’s largest oil reserves…oh boy!
The US did not make friends today. It lost friends today. A lot of friends. There aren't too many universals in history, but one that comes to mind is: no country likes to be invaded or ruled from abroad.

Why does allying with oil reserves help the US at all? Oil reserves are meaningless. The future, no matter what Trump says, belongs to renewables. Nobody is going to deplete their oil reserves so having more means nothing.

I just got off a fight with my parents. About this.

Dad said it was about drugs. I tried to explain how we allow drugs across the border and supply Mexican cartels with weapons.

He wasn't having any of it.

No, it's about oil. And I've told you all about it! I've predicted the past three elections, the coup attempt, etc.

I'm so tired of this shit. And what this asshole has done to us and our families.
Invite him to watch Trump addressing the topic. He makes it clear it’s about oil.

Grenada was a great US-Britain victory
They likely had a total defense ability on par with Montana's National guard-or maybe the Apex police Dept?
The US is beating any country's miliy handily in the western hemisphere. The challenge is after and the US record is decidedly mixed. But Panama and Grenada were fairly successful.

Time we’ll tell., but I don’t think the Venezuelans were happy about the prospect of the continuation of “ the warmth of collectivism.” Me thinks “rugged individualism” prevailed.

The Iraqis were no more happy with Saddam but the Americans were unsurprisingly NOT greeted as liberators.

Hell, even the US faced terrorism in Germany after WWII, even though we were protecting Germany from the Soviets.
