Because if you add 1 drop of wine to a gallon of sewage, you have a gallon of sewage.
And if you add one drop of sewage to a gallon of wine, you've got a gallon of sewage.
It's either a good reason or a shit reason, and mixing the two doesn't make shit good, but makes good things shit.
If you are predetermined to see something negatively you will do so 100% of the time.
Pros (As I see them)
1. We eliminated a large scale drug dealer / cartel enabler who exported drugs / gang related crime to the US.
2. We stopped the encroachment of china / russia into Ven and prevented either from accessing its natural resources and setting up shop
3. We did so with no loss of life of US soldiers
4. We haven't attempted an occupation or regime change
5. We have the opportunity to recoup lost investments (if we choose to)
6. We sent a strong message to other state supported cartel leaders
7. We hurt russia's revenue stream that is greatly need to fund its war
8. We reinforced the earlier message that panama should distance itself from China's attempts to get in the port business.
9. We reestablished the core principles of the Monroe Doctrine to china / russia / iran
10. We sent the message that the US will act if it feels its national security and interests are threatened.
11. Liberation of Ven citizens and an opportunity to help rebuild its economy
Cons:
1. We potentially muddied the waters in how china views this action as it relates to taiwan. I doubt it though as this isn't the straw that pushes it over the edge. It isn't like not taking madura was going to prevent china from invading taiwan.
2. We created a possible situation where chaos could take over Ven if not managed correctly (I think this is a bigger con than the first one listed)
3. trump and miller shooting off their mouths and acting like bitches without any regard to how their words are interpreted
4. Already poor economy could get worse.
5. Disagreements over legality of the action
6. More political disagreement in the US
Maybe there are other cons but I don't see them as being major. I posted this as strictly my opinion and am very aware many will disagree and that's fine. Not trying to convince anyone or convey the message I'm right and they are wrong.
