I get the frustration, but let’s be honest. VP debates aren’t going to be watched by undecided voters and, even if they do, it isn’t going to change their minds about who they are going to vote for. The last VP debate that got any attention was this one:

And, Bush crushed Dukakis.

My apologies if someone has already chimed in on this - how did Vance do in his Senate debates against Tim Ryan?

Ryan seemed to do alright against him in the cuts I saw. Ryan, like Walz, has a "blue-collar" vibe. I did find this take (JD Vance’s Last Debate Opponent Has a Warning for Tim Walz).

I think Walz should address the "no fact-checking" elephant in the room in his opening remarks. Tell the viewers the journalists aren't going to do their jobs on air. Further, let them know that he doesn't have time to fact-check every lie spewing from the mouth of a chronic and persistent liar. Inform the voters that he'll pick and choose the lies he will address but that if he doesn't get to all of them, that in no way means that the ones he omits are anything other than ... well ... lies.

I dont think Walz does well. Vance is a snake.
I'm worried Walz will trip over himself a bit myself. But, I think it will come off as, well I hope, like rookie mistakes from a good guy.

Vance will do a "better" job until he says some quote about wanting to harvest women's ovaries so he can get an erection. Dude is nuts.

The only people to whom JD Vance will appeal tonight are the unimaginably weird, terminally online, incel types to whom he already appeals. He will repulse all of the rest of us- the majority of Americans who are on Team Normal. He is easily the weirdest, most unlikable motherfucker to be on a presidential ticket in sometime, if ever. I don’t think anyone has to worry about anyone changing their votes from Harris to Trump, or deciding to not vote for Harris/sit out the election, based on JD fucking Vance at a vice presidential debate.

I just hoped Walz isn't overprepared. I think he will come off better if he's a little more off the cuff versus giving highly practiced answers like Kamala. And I think he'll come off as very stiff and robotic if he does that.

The reality is that this debate is not likely to matter either way. VP choices themselves rarely move the needle. A debate between them isn't going to do much.

Walz really just needs to be affable.

Not to be all sanguine when others are nervous, but I just don’t think tonight‘s debate will have any marked or substantial impact on the election either way, regardless of who “wins.” I would imagine that the vast majority who tune in into tonight’s debate are political junkies and hobbies (nerds) like most of us on this board who live and die with the day-to-day minutia of politics. I don’t think tonight’s debate moves the needle at folks who aren’t politically attuned. I’ll watch it because 1. I like Tim Walz a lot, 2. I hate JD Vance even more than I hate Trump (by a significant amount, actually), and 3. because I generally want to see Vance humiliate himself as often as possible. But I’m not going to take away anything from the debate about the ultimate electoral chances of Harris/Walz or Trump/Vance, and that goes for whether Tim “wins” or whether JD Vance “wins.”

They are mainly remembered for odd things, like a black fly landing on white hair. Hat tip to Alanis.

I think i'll watch the Braves until is see someone here post something like this, then i'll flip...

That’s exactly what I did for the Kamala/Trump debate. I followed this thread until the general consensus was formed, and then switched over to watch the rest live.

Lol lol I did the same! Was too nervous to go all in. Once she turned it on I was like hell yeah and watched

We must remember that Vance will say anything. That gives him a leg up.

Walz must go after him, keep his foot on the gas and back Shady Vance into a corner. He’s more polished and much smarter than Trump but he still doesn’t do well when he’s on the defensive.
