I hadn't had a discussion with one in three decades. Have they actually developed a platform? Back when I would actually discuss politics in person, that was not the case.

My hope is that the Libertarian candidate will eventually get to 5%, which would allow the party to get federal campaign funds.
I doubt this ever happens. The system naturally resolves to binary choices.

You're probably right, but I'd like to see a 3rd party put some pressure on the 2 primary parties to hopefully motivate the 2 primary parties to select quality candidates and take action on important things like the national debt.

You're not going to see it until you find one that is either dedicated and patient enough or has an idea that resonates well enough to build a party from the grassroots up instead of the top down. The Libertarian Party has been around how long and built what? If they are less than 5% still, they just don't have much going on, whether the flaw is policy or convincing ways of implementation.

The Democratic party has a quality candidate.
I disagree. The Democratic party has a candidate that is better than Trump or Biden, but not the quality we should expect for the most powerful person on the planet/leader of the free world. As a person/leader/communicator, an Obama-type should be the norm. Harris is nowhere close to Obama.

Why? Be specific.

Trump has set the record for worst president and worst presidential candidate, but, after watching debate highlights, I think Tim Walz would have a better shot against Trump than Kamala. Walz is more charismatic and comes across, IMO, as more authentic. He's a better debater, better at speaking without a teleprompter. He's not saddled with 3.5 years of economic/immigration issues. He doesn't have the history of significant political flip-flops and he's a "he".

For the record, I'm not voting for Trump or Harris, so I don't have a dog in this fight.
The simple fact you reference dog fighting speaks volumes as to your character and humanity.

Do you think it is more likely that the next Obama will come from the GOP or from the Dems? I mean, if Obama is the standard, then probably you should be voting Dem.

Whatever you say about Kamala, the GOP hasn't run a candidate in well over a generation that is half as good as her by your proposed Obama standard. GWB spoke like a man of very average intelligence. Trump is certifiably a moron. Romney was inauthentic, smarmy and didn't connect with people. Bob Dole, LOL.
