There would have been no doubt if he'd fired a buckshot round. The sound of a shotgun is not going to be mistaken for a pistol. I also doubt the 9+ pellets in the round would all be lost or able to penetrate a vest. My guess is a pistol if he fired at all.

Have they said whether or not the victim was shot with the same caliber handgun?

Also notable that Officer VG appears to have fired five times, presumably at fairly close range, and did not hit the attacker. I’m glad in hindsight, and I’m sure it’s hard to shoot straight when you’ve just been hit in the chest by a colleague’s bullet, but that’s a lot of bullets flying God knows where in a crowded hotel lobby.

The POTUS posting sensationalistic memes on social media is an international embarrassment. I wish there was some way to get through to him how foolish and petty it makes him and the entire country look to the rest of the world.
