The election laid bare the fact that facts don't matter any more. Lies and social media propaganda are the order of the day.

Haven't watched a minute of TV news since the election. Read my news feed with a bit of existential Sartre nausea but don't really give a crap. Similar to how I currently feel about UNC football really.

Unfortunately the political reality will have far greater consequences for everyone than a historically mediocre football program being mediocre.

I don't. I have every intention of financially exploiting the coming economic crisis. I hope for an abundance of properties hitting the market for easy pickings. I'll be buying up stocks as MAGA retirees offload their portfolios to cover living expenses they can no longer afford.

A financial boon is coming for those capable of leveraging it - definitely don't hold back.
 
Similar feelings for me. I'm thinking meanness and ignorance rule the day. Winter is coming in January and then we'll see if the new administration is as incompetent as the first or will they do even more damage to the country.

Oh I'm fully able to leverage financially. Being a Democrat has always meant voting against my rich white man self interest. Since that seems to be what society wants, me and my family will take the win.
 
I'm at a similar place. Let them burn it all down and see how it goes. Fire long time gov employees, wind down EPA and Dept of Education, SCOTUS is already screwed for a generation.

Just go for it. I feel awful typing that, but also feel like we get what we deserve. We'll need the gilded age to come to an end before New Deal 2.0 is possible. I'm far enough from retirement that I guess I'll take the hit...
 
I have stepped away from blanket caring. I am just rooting for people getting their just desserts. I spent a hell of a lot of energy worrying about people in places where I don't live in a precarious situation that will not affect me. They want this, let them have it. I have already made decisions. I used to concentrate my charitable giving to food banks with the idea that you can't fix anything on an empty stomach. Instead of donations to general things in red states (I used to give a lot to Louisiana,) I am going to seek out food banks in places with heavy concentrations of blue voters. I'd rather give money to the 9th ward than some place in say rural Indiana. Elections have consequences.
 
I think this reaction is understandable and I am definitely trying to be less stressed about politics in the short term. But I don’t think it’s healthy for us to maintain this attitude in the long term. I have two young kids and can’t afford to simply stand by and let us slide further into fascism.

I have no sympathy for MAGA folks likely to be hurt by their own decisions. But that doesn’t mean I think we should just give up fighting the ghoulish and illegal stuff the Trump admin will try to do if given the opportunity. I do think, though, that people (and the media) should not spend the next two months breathlessly freaking out about what may or may not happen.
 
I honestly don't know whether or not I give a crap anymore. I suppose it depends on which day I'm asked. I imagine the conclusion is the same though: let those fine people who voted for this obvious false god POS experience exactly what they voted for. And fervently too. And when I see those same people continuing to complain that they can't afford eggs, that Gaza has been razed and turned into luxury condos, that horrific things are occurring at the border, that cops are shooting unarmed (black) men with impunity, that reporters at actual news agencies are being jailed - all as a result of the incoming administration's policies - I will shrug and self-excuse and rationalize it as "I tried my best" and "this is what the good peeps of 'Murica voted for and I am long out of fucks to give."

It is probably more accurate to say that I'm at a place where it's just too emotionally expensive and exhausting to keep giving a crap and it never goes anywhere. Eventually that turns even the most emotionally tough person to apathy, and I have to withdraw from it before I reach that point. It's the only way I will ever be able to come back to it later and continue to resist, if I decide to go that way.

Boy, I can't wait for Thanksgiving with my MAGA relatives /s :LOL:
 
I’d say that I still very much care in the sense that I care about our country and our role in the greater global community, but I would say that I don’t care in the sense that I am not letting the outcome of political election negatively impact the general joy, optimism, hope, and intrinsic belief that most people are good that I work to carry around in life. Obviously the election outcome was not my preferred result, but I have not spent a moment since the outcome was apparent feeling down or sad or afraid or anything like that. I generally believe in the strength of America the American people, and I believe that politics are cyclical and also in the mantra of “this too shall pass.” Not trying to sound all sanguine or enlightened or anything like that- just sharing my general philosophy. If I’m annoyed about anything, it’s simply that we’ve got to spend the next four years hearing Trumpian stupidity, and watching otherwise intelligent people get on their knees to reflexively and unconditionally lick the boots of someone so unfathomably stupid. I had hoped we were past that, but clearly we aren’t.

But yeah, overall I would say that I am generally every bit as happy and optimistic as I was the day before the election and as I would be even if Harris had won. As I have said several times, I am genuinely, sincerely cheering for President Trump to be wildly successful. I could not possibly care less which political party is in power or holds the White House as long as our country thrives. I certainly want to be as wrong as two left feet, and I want to have a whole hell of a lot of crow to eat, about DJT.

It's 100% on MAGA to fix all our problems now. If they do, great. If they don't, I hope they burn in hell, because they've promised the world. I know on which of those I'm putting my money, but all we can do now is watch.
 
I'm less worried about it than I used to be and less worried than I was during Trump's first term. Just seems like the devil you know at this point and his campaign promises seem slightly less ridiculous than his first time around. I also remember that other than a tax cut and an extra Supreme Court Justice, he didn't get a whole lot done during his first term.

I do think the tariffs are going to hurt. It's also going to suck for a lot of immigrants that are overwhelmingly pretty great people.

I'm most curious if Trump can pull off the government shrinking program that he's going for. I don't think there is as much waste and administrative bloat to cut as we are hoping but I do think it's well past time we decide what we should be spending our tax money on and how much we should be taxing ourselves to pay for it.
