ZZLP impact on IC?

I am not sure if they have sports moderators yet either. I know a lot of people who were, let's say - difficult on game threads, stayed behind. It will be interesting to see how their game threads are.
I'm guessing they're relying on the staff to be the mods...which might work for the premium sports boards, but is going to be interesting if they're also trying to cover the free sports boards. And they're obviously not even trying on the TH247Lounge.

It’s divided so the volume is naturally down on Tar Pit Premium. I find myself posting on three Tar Heel boards now.

The political thread on the old IC (247) is an absolute shitshow. Unsurprisingly, a couple new looney tunes posters have emerged and made that thread a dumping ground for unhinged far right narratives. There seems to be no moderation at all.
I just went there for the first time. Holy crap some of the posts are vile and unhinged. It all seems to be contained to one thread within the lounge, but yikes. I’ll gladly stay here which is for the most part civil.

Yeah, it's a reminder that there are terrible, terrible people in the world and that we unknowingly interact with some of them on a regular basis.

I will say that if TH247 isn't going to moderate their lounge, they really out to just get rid of it. It's going to get really, really ugly if there isn't any sort of adult in the room.

Yeah, one new poster in particular is super angry and deranged. Dude must be deeeeep in the right wing fever swamp.

Indeed. I read the thread and it is disgusting - that one poster clearly hates transgenders with a passion. And I thought that political threads were no longer allowed there? I guess that since IC left it's allowed again to some extent.

Yeah, no politics was an IC rule, not a 247 rule. 247 has had their sites crack down on political discussion, though, so I would expect they'd get involved if it continues at such a rough level.

Businesses such as Inside Carolina have to be dying. What value is there in basketball recruiting news? d00k? Kentucky? Kansas? Maybe UNC? Those fans might care. Same applies to football recruiting. With NIL and limitless transfers, who gives a fuck?

Kudos to Ben, who, IIRC, is a guy who as a teenager built a website dedicated to UNC hoops……IIRC, he was from Massachusetts and then went to the University of Richmond. Good for him to make a good living on people stupid enough to be impatient as hell.

Seriously, I learned when Ralph Sampson was deciding between UNC, UVA, Kentucky, and someone else. “Insiders” didn’t know shit.

And, even if they did, you’d know in a day or two and your life wouldn’t change an iota.

Today’s football game demonstrated that “Inside Carolina” has NO inside knowledge about the football program (did IC publish an accurate 2-deep before kick-off?).

My guess is that after the Hubert Davis era, media outlets such as IC will lose their “insider” access.

I’m not quite as cynical about it but these are fair points. I initially started using IC because I liked following the reporting about the ins and outs of recruiting, practice, etc. As I got older I stopped being interested in following that stuff so closely, but stayed with IC because I liked being able to discuss the teams on the message boards. Didn’t mind paying the annual fee because I still respect the work that the staff does when it comes to reporting, even if I don’t read as much of their content.

The quality of the discussion in the forums seems to have fallen off the last few years though. Not sure if it’s general angst with both of the two major programs having lean years or struggling with transition years or what but it just doesn’t feel the same. I do wonder how the IC staff feels about both head coaches running super tight lipped ships. I guess they aren’t obligated to give up inside access, but IC has been the de facto mouthpiece for the teams for ages and I still think there is some value in having an outlet that tries to portray the team in a generally positive light.

I love forums. I was raised on them. I am 40 and I’ve been posting on them since I was less than 10 years old. It’s just the nerd in me I guess.

Anyway, if you look at the data, there’s no question that they aren’t as popular as they used to be. Facebook, Reddit, discord, Snapchat and all of that crap have taken away from the forum audience. But, it’s clear they are not going away anytime soon given how popular they are across multiple interests and subjects.

Paying for insider stuff is probably on the decline though given that you have a handful of personalities on Twitter that break stuff. People like Sherrell are great though for the diehard fans because you get high-quality reporting and often things that the national people don’t get. It’s just a question of how long that will last.

If Bill Belichick does/doesn’t pan out and Hubert Davis does/doesn’t get fired, there will be no shortage of interest in UNC sports over the next year. So, UNC has it made for at least a little while longer.

to those who are still reading the old site. How do the meltdowns compare?

About the same from my not terribly deep review. In both places most folks are pretty upset with a few optimists chiming in.

Also, to compare the boards, the 247 game thread has ~1950 posts & the IC game thread has ~2280 posts. So IC has ~15% more posts on their thread.

And there was a good amount of deleted comments on the IC thread by the newer mods trying to keep the truly ugly stuff from remaining. Ah, the energy of youth.

Is that comp between free boards or premium?
