While it would not shock me in the least if he's broken a number of laws thinking he should be above the law... I think the real issue is that he's as big of a narcissist as Trump is. He can't take the fact that the same liberals who used to worship him as the champion of all that was green... have now turned on him completely and try to demonize him. He blew billons of dollars on Twitter to take their favorite toy away from them... but still they won't bow down and worship him. So now he wants to see them crushed. He and Trump have very similar personality types.

This is Russian information operations paying off.
Remember, they don't "pick sides" as much as they "pound the wedge".
And to be clear, I'm not saying that Symone Sanders-Townsend is parroting Russian propaganda, except in as much as she is talking to the over-the-top progressive wing of the party who because they are consuming ultra progressive media, are themselves picking up and echoing these themes being spun up by the Russian information operation.
Always remember, Russia plays the long game. I's not necessarily about this one election. It is, however, about harnessing the emotions around this election to deepen division, drive wedges, and harden positions that will last long after this election is over. The end game is to turn us into a dysfunctional country.
I think he's decided that SpaceX has a better future than Tesla, and that cozying up to Republicans is better business going forward -- sort of the Palmer Luckey play.

OTOH, what does Harris have to lose by breaking with Biden on this? All she has to say is, “under my administration, we will follow international law.”
I don’t think that would lose her any votes and pro-Palestine people would understand what she’s saying.
Does anyone currently within the Democratic coalition think we should still be sending 2,000 pound bombs to a country that is credibly accused of violating international law? Will these people not vote for Harris if she comes out against this?

It's possible. But I think in his mind, his future is Trump 2.0. That Trump won't live much longer given his age, life style and eating habits. He thinks he's the perfect successor to Trump, only smarter and more successful in business.

Is it correct that disaffected liberals lost her the election? I know there were a few that were unhappy with Bernie losing and may have voted Stein but I thought Hillary really lost it in the midwest from those working-class union folks. And I think Harris has similar issues although I think she's a little better politician than Hillary was.
Maybe I'm misremembering.
Harris has given plenty of winks and nods to pro-Palestine people. She has to be careful because she can't afford to lose moderates. If the pro-Palestine people can't figure out that a Harris presidency is infinitely better for their cause than a Trump one then I shouldn't say what I think about their intelligence.

Maybe. And if you can get the Republican nomination, you have 45% of the electorate locked up.
That said, a whole lot of people thought they would be the next Trump 2.0, and so far, no one else has been able to claim the mantle.
If Trump wins, then JD Vance is in the pole position. If Trump loses, it’s hard to imagine the Pubs will want to go down the businessman route again.
Not to mention he’d need a constitutional amendment in order to run.

i am well left of the democratic party and this is just mind-numbing.
anyone who considers themselves "left wing" but still needs to be courted or convinced to vote harris/walz is a fucking moron and deserves what they get if trump wins. i'll blame them the same way that i blame certain hardcore bernie bros who threw a fit and abstained in 2016.
You can blame all you won’t but the goal of a campaign is to win, not to blame people after you lose.

perhaps some of them are young enough that 2016 doesn't resonate.
The point is that you have to deal with the electorate as it is, not as it should be. Those voters may be dumb, but you still have to convince them to vote for you. Campaigns are all about threading common themes through disparate voters.
Now spare a thought for the rest of us who feel that way about people like you, Elon.
None of that changes the fact that if they withhold their votes and Trump wins and he makes their lives measurably worse then they are in fact dumb and deserving of derision.

True, but sometimes the support of one group costs you the support of a larger one. Or at least the concessions you have to make to the pariah group hurt you in the long run. This is why primaries hurt candidates. Indeed, we're seeing some of that with Kamala now.
And ideally, the pariah group recognizes this. It votes for blue no matter who (or, in the case of Pubs, vote red even if they want you dead), and then tries to work behind the scenes to get what it wants.
The pariah groups who think they are the majority -- like extreme MAGA or defund the police types -- are never going to get more than derision and/or marginalization. Which in some cases is what they want. But probably not in the case of those who are upset about Gaza.
