This was likely inevitable: Phil Berger is claiming that his campaign has found voters in Guilford County (where he got most of his votes in the primary) who were somehow given the wrong ballot. He says that he has sworn affidavits from these voters, and that Sam Page's campaign has been trying to "intimidate" them from signing the affidavits. It just so happens that the deadline for filing for a recount is tomorrow at noon, so this is likely Team Berger's attempt to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the primary election before asking for a recount and then challenging the results in court. It still wouldn't be a surprise if Berger finds some way to steal this election and remain the GOP candidate in that district. The guy is as slimy and ruthless as they come. But according to MAGA only Democrats steal elections!
WRAL Link: Wrong ballot? Berger, Page spar over allegations of election mistakes ahead of possible recount
But not real. First, it's not likely voters; it's registered voters. Likely voter screen will make at least two points of difference, if not more. It's also 556 respondents. 37% were reached on landline -- I don't know if that's representative or not, but it seems high. Critically, they seemed not to call mobile phones. Landline or text were the options. That seems like crappy methodology. It also seems as though it would skew results more rural.Too close.
It's never going to happen, just like I'm never going to win the lottery. But wouldn't it be sweet if Page voters decided in November to vote for the Democratic candidate just to spite Berger for the shenanigans he is pulling to win. It would just be for two years. Maybe the Democratic candidate in District 26 campaign slogan could be, "It's just for two years. Punish Phil Berger for stealing an election."It's going to be fascinating to see how the pubs handle this. will Berger play the hand he had instore for the democrats in case of a November photo finish? Precedent set for the Fall. If the shenanigans get too caustic, if Berger steals it, will Page voters help a democrat?

No Trump Endorsement for Cornyn or Paxton in Texas Senate Race as Deadline Passes
President Trump’s decision not to weigh in before the deadline means both John Cornyn and Ken Paxton remain on the ballot, extending their costly and increasingly personal battle into a May runoff.www.nytimes.com
“… Mr. Trump could still offer an endorsement at any time, but his decision not to before the deadline for candidates to formally drop out of the race means both Mr. Cornyn and Mr. Paxton will be on the next ballot even if one of them withdraws at a later date. It also means both will continue to duke it out in what has already been a highly personal, historically expensive Senate race.…”

“…
Berger, a Republican and one of the most powerful politicians in the state, asked the board to pull out 217 undervotes — where voters were recorded as not having marked a preference in his Senate race — and recount them by hand to see if any machines had failed to pick up a ballot mark. He also asked that they recount three overvotes, where voters had picked more than one candidate in a contest.
The board, which did not debate the request at length, did not issue a formal motion rejecting Berger’s request, but rather agreed to let the normal recount process play out.
“The board took no action because they want to see the process play out, which is laid out in statute and rules,” the board’s executive director, Sam Hayes, told reporters.
“I think it’s premature to consider any of these other things that are coming from the campaigns at this time.”
Pat Sebastian, an adviser to Page’s campaign, applauded the board’s decision and called on Berger to concede….”
Fetterman definitely needs to go - he's become the Sinema of this session of Congress. I suspect some of it at least is due to his stroke, but there's no real defense for his behavior. It wouldn't surprise me if he became a Republican before his reelection bid, but if he doesn't then Shapiro or some other prominent PA Democrat definitely needs to primary him, and I think they'd win.So I saw this morning where Fetterman cast the deciding Committee vote to move Mullin forward as DHS Secretary.
This is more 2028 but at this point I’m starting to think it would be better for Shapiro to primary Fetterman for that Senate seat, than run for POTUS. Maybe someone more familiar with PA politics can weigh in on a better option to getting that seat truly (D) again and getting this Manchin knock-off, out.
Two reasons specific to VA:What’s up with these? I’ve seen a couple of them. Feels like there’s a bigger story here I’m missing.
