Locations. Although the story takes place in upstate colonial New York, filming was done mostly in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Locations used include Lake James, Chimney Rock Park and The Biltmore

I was staying at the Grove Park Inn when they were filming and got Tim Conway’s autograph. Most of the actors were staying there.
