Charlie Kirk shot and killed at Utah rally.

Times like this are the internet at its worst. The internet is absolutely horrible for reacting to real-time events; all sorts of crazy stuff gets reposted and breathlessly cited and spreads like wildfire before anyone really has any clue what's happening. I can't imagine how crazy things would have gotten if the current version of the internet was around when 9/11 happened.

in all likelihood it's an assassination but given the tendency among some to label shooters mentally ill, trans, or gangbangers depending on the circumstances or appearances or political hopes and wishes, it's annoying to me to see a little shit like Kirk be anointed as an assassination victim when there's as much evidence that he was killed because he pissed off his drug dealer: none. "Kirk shot and killed" seems perfectly appropriate given what we know. I'm not steaming mad about it or anything, just lightly irked.

I don’t think the “assassination” title thing is worth squabbling about and would probably agree that this was an assassination myself. But, until we find out a little more I’m just gonna say shot and killed.

I think since we’re all adults here and this is a very incendiary type event, a little longer leash is ok for people to vent a little. I have seen virtually the same reaction on any social media type conversation I have consumed today. People are angry/frightened/scared/worried/etc. so emotions are running high.

“An assassination is the premeditated murder of a prominent person, such as a politician or leader, usually for political, ideological, religious, or financial motives.”

I think what happened today qualifies as an assassination.
I'm not trying to play Zen here but we know no motives yet.

Crazy how this guy gets shot and killed, and the girl that was stabbed and killed on the train in Charlotte gets so much attention, but other people get murdered everyday and it's just as tragic. I mean I understand why some get more attention and outrage than others. Just saying it's not necessarily right and it's all tragic.
