Fwiw, A&M won one Big12 championship, in 1998. The idea that the Manziel effect would’ve carried A&M to permanent conference contender status wasn’t precedented. Going 6-6 to 10-2 in the SEC is a far more enjoyable week to week watch than 6-6 to 10-2 against Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, and okie state.

To say something is unprecedented doesnt mean anything other than it just hasn’t happened yet. It was unprecedented for a small Catholic school in a city such as Spokane, WA to become a national basketball powerhouse but Gonzaga created the precedent. Frankly A&M is probably the most underperforming sports program out there given the size of the school, the fan base, revenue they pull in, etc. They’re operating at the same level as Michigan, Alabama, etc. in all these metrics and are based in the Mecca of HS football, but never could win themselves more than 1 Big 12 championship?

I grew up in Texas. I was inculcated into A&M from my earliest memories (both parents). I played at the highest level of Texas Hs football. I went to and worked for A&M, including the athletic department. I’ve been to probably two dozen A&M games. I’m familiar with the circumstances.

Your claim that A&M to the SEC left a bunch of glory on the table in the Big12 is relying on big assumptions, and your claim that the SEC sucks for A&M fans isn’t supported by the number of fans in the stands, eyeballs on games, small dollar athletic department donations, nor the many anecdotes of my A&M milieu. I don’t know a single Aggie pining for a November game in Lawerence over a road trip to Oxford, win or lose.

Oregon a small favorite at home vs UCLA

Don’t know much about this UCLA team but they must be decent

UCLA with a 2 point road win vs Oregon. 14 in Kenpom after the win

They looked solid. Balanced scoring and go about 10 deep

Best player is a 6'9 transfer from Oregon St who can shoot it

Since 2013-14 UCLA has five sweet 16s, two final fours, and three no postseason invites. Odd mix.

As for Oregon, their bulky guards punished A&M's slight backcourt (80-70 UO win) but the Ducks don't appear to have a reliable go-to guy, nor knock down shooters. The 7 footer has some skill, and his mere size will cause lots of teams problems, but A&M schemed him out with rangy 6-8 guys.

On the A&M front, after yesterday's win over TTU, they have four good wins including Wake (ok win), Ohio State, and Creighton. They're essentially the same team from the last two seasons, i.e. NIT floor (assuming health to Taylor and Garcia), hustle hustle hustle, can't shoot a lick, and should not be watched unless you enjoy hair shirts and 2023 Iowa football.

Number 1 recruit in the country picks BYU over UNC, Kansas and Alabama. Wonder how much they paid him to come there.

Honestly, good for him. If it wasn't going to be us, then BYU was the preferable option.

So, I'm obviously going through something and decided to punish myself by turning on the UVA game.

14 minutes into the game and they are down 14 to 3. But the announcers are telling us what hard defense... They used to play under Bennet.

With 10 minutes to go, they were losing 37 to 34 to Bethune-Cookman. Virginia ended the game on a 25 to 4 run to win by 18.

Someone bumped a Danny Wolf thread from April on IC. Hilarious receipts

Not that we needed proof that 90% of posters on there are clueless

Strong home win for Dayton over Marquette last night. They were down 13 in the second half

Sad state of affairs to be pulling for random A10 teams but it's where we're at

Dayton is better than at least half the teams in the ACC, probably more.
