I grew up in Texas. I was inculcated into A&M from my earliest memories (both parents). I played at the highest level of Texas Hs football. I went to and worked for A&M, including the athletic department. I’ve been to probably two dozen A&M games. I’m familiar with the circumstances. To say something is unprecedented doesnt mean anything other than it just hasn’t happened yet. It was unprecedented for a small Catholic school in a city such as Spokane, WA to become a national basketball powerhouse but Gonzaga created the precedent. Frankly A&M is probably the most underperforming sports program out there given the size of the school, the fan base, revenue they pull in, etc. They’re operating at the same level as Michigan, Alabama, etc. in all these metrics and are based in the Mecca of HS football, but never could win themselves more than 1 Big 12 championship?
Your claim that A&M to the SEC left a bunch of glory on the table in the Big12 is relying on big assumptions, and your claim that the SEC sucks for A&M fans isn’t supported by the number of fans in the stands, eyeballs on games, small dollar athletic department donations, nor the many anecdotes of my A&M milieu. I don’t know a single Aggie pining for a November game in Lawerence over a road trip to Oxford, win or lose.
