Can you please link the NYT article.

President Trump and his subordinates have repeatedly claimed that the sweeping domestic policy package that just passed the Senate eliminates taxes on Social Security, promoting that as one of the chief merits of the bill as he tries to corral support for the politically divisive legislation.

Except the bill doesn’t eliminate Social Security taxes at all.

Instead, the bill creates a new, additional tax deduction specifically for seniors 65 and over that is designed to provide the most relief for people on limited income. But instead of promoting the new tax deduction, Mr. Trump has sought to rebrand it as an elimination of the Social Security tax, which he promised to do during his 2024 campaign.

I do not control the direction of the discussion. Sometimes discussions take a detour, then get back on track.

So
Many
Victims....

I'm confused...

Are you now admitting that your story was very unlikely?

I never said you lied, I just don't believe you had enough information to use the story as you did.

But the welfare queen story is now new, I've heard it from so many people. And I've never heard one that had enough information they all relied on a certain level of worldview bias.
The welfare king story seems like the most likely explanation for what I saw. It takes very creative storytelling to come to a different conclusion.

“I am a conservative, I did vote for Trump in this last election, and I do want us to have a lean, efficient government, but there’s a point when you’ve gone too far — not pumping the bathrooms in common recreation areas is absolutely too far,” Powers Gardner said. “We have a federal government that tells us that they’re more competent at managing our local lands than we are, and yet they’re the ones who can’t figure out how to pump a toilet and we’re the ones spending our tax dollars on a land that they get the money for the recreators on. I mean, we really need to work better. We need to be better partners. We need to work together and we need to recognize that these are all our citizens that we’re serving.”

In the moment, it was opportunistic curiosity. I've been in grocery stores thousands of times. Never once have I thought about or been actively interested in EBT. Other than this forum, I have never told the story.
See, this is where I have to circle back. You started this whole thing with some version of saying that you're sure others have experienced the same thing as if this is a common occurrence that Americans can commiserate about. Now you're saying that in thousands of grocery store interactions, this is the first time that you've even thought about EBT. Can it really be both things? Can it be worth mention and some sort of shared social knowledge AND be something that you've never seen in thousands of other grocery store trips?

Remember, Zen’s first poast after he brought up the Ronald Reagan welfare queen myth was to post a picture of an ostrich with its head in the sand.

He then edited that post, deleting the ostrich photo, and concocted the “welfare king” BS.

No it doesn't. It takes creativity to pretend you know anything about the man other than he used an EBT card and you liked his clothing.

This bullshit about a lean efficient government shows a basic lack of understanding. How many of us work at companies that are not always lean and efficient and we get to choose who we serve, the government doesn't.

It’s disgusting to me that these people don’t want their money given to the poor but are fine with handouts for the top 1%. Rugged capitalism for the poor and middle class socialism for the wealthy.
It's truly ridiculous how much people want no "handouts" for the poor and are so adamant about cutting them off, as if people getting welfare are living some life of luxury. Meanwhile their heroes like Elon are getting zillions in tax breaks and government contracts and they are totally fine with it.

Like when there's a proposal for a tax increase for people making over a million dollars a year, people who would never make that in a lifetime will be against it - I'm convinced that most Americans just think any day now they are going to strike it rich.

Please don’t feed the troll. If you ignore him he’ll stop posting ish.

They fucked around, now let ‘em find out. Serves ‘Em right.

Now, I know there will be collateral damage… that really sux, no doubt. I feel sorry for those who didn’t vote for this shit. I really do.

But for those who did vote for this shit, I want to spread the table for them, I want to help serve them their shit sandwich.

Can I shield those who don’t deserve the chaos at the same time I laugh at those who brought it on themselves?

Yes. I can. Watch me.

I’ve read studies and articles back to the ‘80’s…….many Americans believe they’ll be rich one day; so, they don’t want to tax the rich.
