Let’s focus on this board.

Who are the Newsom fanboys?
Cal is not only NOT a fanboy, he’s an out right hater. He’d rather vote Trump than Gavin. He’d rather have a third Trump term as opposed to a Newsom in the whitehouse… it’s that bad with him. Long live TrumP! Fuck Gavin.

Not true. I'd gladly vote Gavin over any Republican in the general. Unfortunately, I don't think I could get 50% of the public to join me. So, hopefully, I will not be forced to make that choice in November 2028.

This is pretty much the extent to what I had to say on the subject:

“Roy Cooper went National while he was Guv.
Shapiro, Whitmer, DeSantis, Huckabee… tons of Guvs have gone “National” for this that and the other.
Besides, it’s documented that Newsom’s was a State-wide address NOT NATIONAL.
While it garnered national attention and addressed issues of national concern, his primary focus was on the state of California and its residents.”

I’m not sure if statements like the above make me a “fanboy” of Newsom’s “performative” politics or not. Perhaps you weren’t referring to me personally while casting your aspersions. (Fanboys indeed).

So if not me, to whom on this board are you referring? If there are so many “fanboys” on this one little board, perhaps you’re wrong and you may find 50% of the voting public willing to join you in casting a vote for Newsom against a Trump third term after all.

He has also joined the battle of the memes and you go low, we go lower social media battles …which may prove his undoing as I don’t think moderates and independents will give a Democrat the same pass on that as they give Trump and MAGA.

I am not wild about it...but then again orangeturd will at some point put every dollar going to Cali on hold

Act like a normal governor and not someone taking advantage of people’s suffering to so obviously elevate his presidential profile.
So people are suffering now under the Trump administration but no we can't or shouldn't vote for the guy running against the next king of America?

I have not been a Gavin "fan boy" but I sure do appreciate him standing up, taking it to Trump, and alerting the media and country that we must do what we can to impede this creep of autocracy.

Now some will view this as a stunt to gain publicity in order to further his presidential aspirations for 2028. If that be the case, then so be it.

Notwithstanding supposed motives, he is laying down the gauntlet and I hope he continues to bring attention to the existential threat to our American democracy.

At this point Gavin and Jasmine Crockett lead the vanguard. I hope heretofore tepid Dem leaders will join the vanguard.

I would agree that Newsome is probably the front runner as of right now for 2028 – and obviously many things can and will change, probably several times over, between now and then – but even if he does not end up being the nominee, I think what he is doing to mainstream the mockery and derision of MAGA is exactly what the doctor ordered in this moment. For 10 years now, not one single solitary other Democrat has effectively figured out how to punch Trumpers in the mouth. Tim Walz did it successfully for like three weeks until a bunch of weenie democratic consulting class type people shut it down. Newsom has the platform, the charisma, and the ability and willingness to punch Trump where it hurts the most.

I recognize that I am probably a lot closer ideologically to the Lincoln Project goobers than I am to true liberals, and I recognize that the Lincoln Project guys have not endeared themselves to the left through the years, but I think they’ve been absolutely spot on for a while now about how to goad Trump. It feels to me like establishment Democrats have been so reluctant for the last decade to actually get down in the mud and the muck with Trump and his dipshit supporters, but it may quite literally be the only effective way to combat them.

Sure, they goad Trump. Their actual effect on elections seems grossly underwhelming compared to the effort and money they spend.

I'm not sure I want to copy them. I don't think Newsom is. I think Newsom realizes this type of shit gets attention, and attention is the hardest thing to get.

I agree that he's likely the front-runner (almost by default right now) at this stage. i don't think he'll end up being the Dem nominee in 2028, mostly because I think being from California will be too big of an obstacle for him to overcome at the national level.

JMHO, but it shows how absolutely screwed up our national political scene is when being governor of California - the largest, most diverse state in the union - is likely a negative in national politics. Outside of VPOTUS and maybe a couple of Cabinet positions, there is not a position in the US that would better prepare someone for the challenges of the WH than Governor of California...yet it will be viewed as a negative trait by many across our country.

Couldn't agree more. The whole "weirdo" charge was really getting under their skins and actually had Trumpers on the defensive for awhile and was dominating the news and social media cycle in a way that Democrats hadn't been able to do against Trump before, and then Democrats just abruptly dropped the topic. They wouldn't have won the election with it, but at least they had something that had even Trump flummoxed until they stopped using it.

Governing a one-party state, even a big one, is not good preparation for the presidency. Beshear, Cooper, Whitmer and Shapiro all have more practical skills in working with a divided government.

Fair enough.
Then we are going to lose. If democrats are stupid enough to nominate another Californian for the presidency, then we will get to enjoy another 4-8 years of Republican rule.
I don’t know, man, I think your personal dislike of Newsom is overriding objectivity. If the economy is completely in the tank over the next few years directly as a result of the Republican president and Republican Congress, I think you and I could run at the top of the ticket for the Democratic Party in 2028 and win, much less someone handsome, articulate, and willing to spar with MAGA as Newsom is.
