Gavin Newsom addresses the nation

On liberal Joe this morning the Axios gang and Dem operatives think not only is Newsom trolling MAGA but the Governor is trying to establish a MAGA on the left by imitating Trump (so it could be both). They urge caution as Trump is a unique figure and, as Republican competitors learned, it's hard to imitation him and get away with it.

That said, currently Newsom’s satire is cathartic for a lot of non-MAGA folks, though I suspect a lot of folks enjoying it now will ultimately tire of it long before the 2028 election. Eventually, Newsom will stumble over one that goes too far for too many people and have to apologize and cool it. As far a I can tell, there is no too far for Trump in the hearts of MAGA.

Yeah, this particular Newsom strategy won't last that long. I'll be surprised if he's still doing it a month from now. It's a good indicator, though, that some Dems are starting to figure out (1) how to make Trump look like the idiot he is, and (2) how to get attention in a media environment that Trump absolutely dominates. So while this will fade away, I look forward to the next thing Newsom or some other forward-thinking Dem comes up with to poke the bear.

Not really. I actually don't completely dislike Newsom. I give him credit (unlike most Dem politicians) for going on Fox, Rogan, Kirk and other conservative/libertarian sites and mixing it up with the other side. He just needs a consistent message.

Lol. Is this another one of those things where the video will show you're completely misrepresenting what was said? Because there's not a Dem in the world who fails to understand what Newsom is doing here, or who thinks he's trying to create some leftwing MAGA (which couldn't really exist anyway).

What they'll see is that the article is discussing why there really can't be a liberal MAGA, not expressing concern that will happen.

Second, your post was about comments allegedly made on Morning Joe by "Dem operatives," not about an Axios article.
 
"libs" aka persons with a capacity for abstract thought are amused and appreciate Newsome's parody. Not only do they take Newsome non-seriously, they take him non-literally.

MAGAs aka persons lacking a sufficient capacity for abstract thought take Trump seriously and literally .

I agree that it's not inherently funny when either Trump or Newsom do it.

I disagree that it's not hilarious when Newsom does it and MAGA loses their damned minds over it. Like a lot of meme humor, the twisting of context is where the humor comes into play and Newsom's PR folks are doing an incredible job with this.

Anyone who thinks Newsom’s team is posting with even 1% earnestness (as oppose to Trump posting absurd AI slop with 99% earnestness) should have their political analysis summarily dismissed for the remainder of their lives. Anyone doing it on tv is doing it for clicks/engagement and/or shaping a narrative (see Perino).

Also, stop watching cable news. Read. I don’t know a single person - literally - who watches Joe Scarborough.

The problem?..... the liberal media has been highlighting the "rank absurdity" of Trump for nearly a decade and it's accomplished literally nothing.

On the right/ center-right, Newsom is viewed as a mega liberal, entitled, uppity California boy, while Trump has convinced half the country that he is "one of them". How he pulled off that illusion is anyone's guess, but Newsom's opinion likely carries little to no weight with anyone except those who already know Trump is absurd.

The hilarious part is that it’s quite literally the very thing that Trump does. He spends his morning watching Fox and then tweets out his attacks based on what grievance Fox reports about. Does anyone actually believe that Trump knew who Sydney Sweeney was before Fox complained about her getting “cancelled?”

Everything is projection with these clowns. Every complaint is an admission.
