If the USA attacks Greenland does the NATO Treaty Article 5 apply ?

An armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all, obligating other members to assist, potentially with armed force, to restore security

I'm sure NATO countries never anticipated one NATO country attacking another NATO country...

Yeah, I kind of think us taking Greenland by force necessitates military strikes against our forces by other NATO countries

Greenland and Cuba are next and Mexico after that because they pose "national security" risks...

I'm not sure we will deem Canada a national security risk...but who knows ?

NOT a national security risk? You somehow don't believe that Canada's unlawful and willful withholding the delicious delectables offered by Tim Horton's constitutes a slap in the face of every American? AMERICA! should seize every Tim Horton's in Canada and post armed security guards to turn away anyone who does not have an American passport. Or alternatively, if the person attempting entry does not have a passport, just hand them a piece of paper with the following written on it and ask them to read it aloud: "I'm sorry, I was out and about, didn't have my (preferred term for a cordless phone) in my bag, was eating a bagel, and had a long list of things to do from A to Z."

I'm sure Putin is strongly encouraging Trump to go after Greenland to create a crisis within NATO that Russia can exploit. Putin wants to be back in the USSR and rebuild his Iron Curtain but NATO complicates those ambitions. Trump fucking up NATO is a gift to Putin.

This is exactly what I think has and is happening.

I'd send all of Tim Hortons food for free. nasty stuff

also Burger King already owns them.

Trump takes control of North and South America
Putin takes control of Western and Eastern Europe
XI shares with Russia control of Asia and XI controls all of Africa

Summit conference with Trump, Putin, and XI to decide who takes control of Australia and Antarctica... XI can make the geographic argument to control Australia and Trump can make the argument that their people speak English, but offer a compromise to give up Australia in exchange for control of natural resource rich Antarctica.

Cold day in hell NATO would fire against the US. I think moment the US military forcibly asserts power on Greenland is the moment the world acknowledges NATO is dead instead of its current dead man walking state.

Trump is narcissist who is absolutely drunk on power. As bad as he was before, his tone has changed considerably after capturing Maduro.

If we invaded Greenland, at minimum Europe would impose devastating sanctions on the US which would ultimately force Trump to relent or be removed from office.

If we invade Greenland and Republicans don't remove Trump then we deserve our fate.

Of all the stupid shit to come from Trump over the last 10 years, this Greenland shit has to be the stupidest. There's almost certainly no way Europe isn't going to intervene if we try to actually do something and the repercussions aren't nearly worth the risk in any form or fashion.

Why did the damn mouthbreathers have to elect someone so fucking stupid to the WH?

Wasn't the plot of George Orwell's 1984 that there were just 3 nation-states left in the world? Eastasia, Eurasia, and Oceania. And they're all ruthless, totalitarian fascist states that are constantly at "war" with one another. Between's Trump's "Spheres of Influence" idea and our high-tech plutocat billionaire overlords like Elon and Peter Thiel creating ways to spy on everyone and eliminate privacy completely it sounds as if Orwell's fiction is slowly but steadily turning into reality.

Indeed

It is a bright cold day in January and the clocks are striking thirteen...
