They should have ignored officers’ commands and kept going. Good luck prosecuting that.Yeah, I’m sorry, but in these circumstances, a wrecked tractor trailer full of bottled water is fair game.
Good to hear you'e safe.Wife and I are safe and unharmed. We have two or three trees down in our backyard but none hit our house. They did fall across our backyard fence so our dog lot is now compromised, but that is small potatoes. Our house was not flooded although our basement did take on a lot of water. We are still without power and have been, soon going on four full days now. We were without water for 2.5 days- water was just restored yesterday however it’s not potable so we can’t drink it without boiling it. But we can’t boil it because we have no electricity for our electric stove top. We had to drive around in our cars, looking for gas and to charge our phones and also searching for a cell signal so we could send a text or a phone call to close family and friends. We drove 30 miles one way to fetch freshwater to drink.
We are safe and our animals are also safe and well fed. Our hearts go out to those whose situation is worse than ours. One half a block away are two houses with large oak trees on top of them, crushing automobiles and roofs - neighbors are housing family members whose homes were lost in the flood.
This is our first access to internet, information, cell service and email in those four days … hats off to all the rescue workers, tree services, electrical workers, anybody out there trying to help folks dig out from underneath this mess.
At least three Sheriff’s deputies have been killed in the line of duty by floodwaters in western NC, so the hatred towards them is beyond the pale right now.Sheriff's department could have let folks carry off the water and wrote a check for it later. Would have been the biggest public relations win in history.
But, nope.
Probably gonna spend that money on a hot car confiscated from a drug dealer bought at auction and put a sheriff's department wrap on it and drive it around to show everyone how cool they are. Protect and serve.
thread of insane pics here:
Holy smokes. I didn't know that. How horrible. Were they killed trying to rescue folks? At least three Sheriff’s deputies have been killed in the line of duty by floodwaters in western NC, so the hatred towards them is beyond the pale right now.
That's tragic. I wasn't aware. At least three Sheriff’s deputies have been killed in the line of duty by floodwaters in western NC, so the hatred towards them is beyond the pale right now.
And the geographic size of it. The amount of land impacted by this is so massive, and much of it is hard to access even in perfect conditions. I really can’t imagine how hard it will be to get resources to the most remote locations.I'm on a facebook group for Avery county. People are still calling out for help, asking about the whereabouts of missing loved ones... people are trapped and without lifesaving medications (insulin, etc). They are running out of water and food. It's just so devastating. There are good stories too... neighbors helping neighbors... but so many are affected, in so many different places up and down the Blue Ridge. The sheer magnitude of this event is completely overwhelming.
