The good news is that most of the folks taking this BS seriously are folks who were already not going to vote for Dems at any level.

Unless something huge comes out from legit sources, I wouldn't be too concerned about this having a big effect on the election.
I dont even think those rumors negatively impact NC. I think the growth of recovery stories will help, actually

I hope so. I’ve been spending too much time on social media, being inundated with the despair and the crazy… think I’ve lost a little perspective.

I have seen more positive posts vs the conspiracies - and that includes more moderate people.

I am sure the MAGAs hate gov help and will trash it. But ignore them. This is not coming across like Katrina

Good to hear.

Just want to let the record reflect that I just want people to actually get the help that they need. If the government response isn’t good, it needs to be noted and corrected. There should be accountability. But I don’t want there to be false rumors spread around just to hurt the democrats’ election chances.

I've seen quite a few of these "the government isn't really helping and only making things worse" posts on facebook.

Every single one of them are from people whose facebook pages are just a litany of conspiracy theories, misinformation, and political crackpottery. Anyone who knows them or even facebook itself at any depth isn't going to take them seriously.

I've seen a lot of "normal" but low information, conservative leaning people sharing disinformation. Tons of bullshit going viral.

Problem is, there are people needing and asking for help, no one is helping them, people who have heard from them are trying to help them and are being stopped. That is the part that doesn't make sense to me. At least let people in to help if you aren't or can't do it.
No they aren't. If people need help and the professionals can get to them they will help them. No one is keeping supplies and help from people if the professionals can reach them.

But were really any of those folks reachable with non-conservative information and views before Helene happened?

Probably not. Just wanted to note that the Helene disinformation spread is much broader than just the true GQP crazies.
The spread may be broad, but the impact may very well be minimal. Trump spreads BS all over the place, but rarely does it convince anyone not already inclined to support him to actually support him.

That's how it always is with GQP disinformation, though. The whole point of the misinformation campaigns by the Russians and others is that if you flood the zone with this crap it will capture a lot of gullible, mostly well-meaning people who don't recognize it as BS.

Mod note: leaving this up to show that claims like the below really need to provide a source at the minimum.

FEMA is blocking aid from coming in. There are families that haven't eaten in days, yet supplies are not allowed in. Ridiculous.
I literally drove my car full of food and diapers and bottled water and other necessities into Asheville today.

Dropped them all off with my neighbor who is running an aid station near the RAD.

GTFOH with that bullshit
