Looks like they would know who “someone “ is. National guard, HP, deputies, etc.??
While I think a lot of this is bs it’s not hard to believe that police would be turning people away. And while government can and is doing a great job with response , they are also capable of just blindly enforcing rules with no consideration of nuance.

Damn I had to sign up to Twitter to see some of these videos. Not sure why I can watch some in thread and some I have to go to Twitter. Just don’t want to support anything Elon does.

Really? Sorry, I did not know that. I get that message for some YouTube videos when they are posted.

So the focus right now is correctly on the immediate impacts, searching for missing people, getting basic food and supplies to those in remote areas that are cut off by washed out roads, etc.

It gets more and more depressing thinking about the long term ramifications too. This time of year is usually one of the peak times for visitors for a lot of areas in WNC that rely heavily on tourism. My folks have a second home near Blowing Rock that was fortunately undamaged. My dad drove up and said Boone looked like it had been through the wringer but that Blowing Rock was pretty much fine because it sits on higher elevation with the major creeks and rivers all below it. He said they are probably going to try and spend a few extra weekends up there this fall to give their favorite spots in town some business since those places are going to really need it.

Not discounting the lost tourist revenue at all. Nor daily normal business. But it is somewhat, to what degree I don't know, offset by all the recovery personnel that will need feeding and lodging for quite sometime.

Currently their emphasis is getting infrastructure up and running in whatever way possible. It will take much more time to make more permanent, secure repairs.

Your basic residential and commercial construnction will need and most likely attract a host of out of town/state workers as well.

ETA Not much help for the chachka, "local" jam/fruit, t-hirt tourist, etc. dependant vendors though.

My friend who owns the laundromats had a bunch of his employees in, including him and his wife, and did free laundry for 60 linemen yesterday.

I have it on good authority that the National Guard has been sitting on their butt under orders from Biden, Harris, and Cooper. Is that not correct?
/sarcasm
