Did you see an answer to the how much?
I didn't. But there's a reason for the secrecy, yes? They are doing something shady. Maybe it's unrelated to Duke -- for all we know, they could be money laundering. Maybe it's not very shady, or it's merely shady without being actually bad. But secret slush funds are rarely put to good or lawful use.

You’re making a big assumption here.

Maybe he had Tyson in mind there or it’s a general observation of what they need to vet for.
It is an assumption, but no more of one than EC's comments were directed back to UNC. Especially since one of the critiques of EC is that he didn't handle the spotlight well and was particularly bothered by criticism.

Note that I merely said "recent transfer" and HD didn't mention any player by name, but both of us knew who I believe HD was possibly referencing by the quote. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to see where those comments might have been directed.

There could be a reason(s) for secrecy, but I am not in the position that it’s something shady. After all, UNC also hasn’t come out and listed the NIL deals for their athletes.

Seems a bit petty given what we know about HD’s character.

It doesn't seem like lack of NIL deals is a problem for UNC.

Correction — it’s not a problem for RJ. He’s a likable All-American from a big brand school. He earned those deals through his play and personality and successful national profile, and it’s all dependent on endorsing products via traditional or social media advertising. UNC or boosters only indirectly played a role in most of that income for RJ.

This isn’t to be conflated (which I’m sure it has been in your tiny mind, since you’re no doubt trying to point this at HD) with straight bags of boosters’ cash being offered to just show up at a school and play. Which is what NIL is mostly coming to mean, as a handwave formality for the transaction… and that’s what is the real driving force behind most of these recruits’ decisions. The vast majority of them don’t have that kind of RJ juice behind their name (or Arch Manning on a bigger scale), so nobody wants them in high dollar commercials or social media endorsement deals, and what they're in it for is their bag of booster cash. Very different from RJ’s or Bacot’s NIL successes.

Not trying to point at anything. Knock it off with the personal attacks.

Greg just did a podcast with Tommy (over at IC). He has been very well educated in UNC's NIL "program." He thinks UNC being behind in NIL is greatly overblown.

So you’re not trying to say, passive aggressively, “See — NIL deals aren’t a problem for UNC, so this shows that HD is the actual cause of recruiting failures, since this article shows he had the resources to land players…”?

Because I’d bet my bottom dollar that my read on that is spot-on. But if not, my sincerest apologies.

9 times out of 10, secrecy means shady. That's my experience in corporate law, at least.

The other interesting aspect is the incorporation in Delaware (if I remember the article correctly). There's no reason to incorporate a non-profit in Delaware unless 1) you want to mix your organization among all the other orgs incorporating there; 2) you live there; or 3) you're just in the habit of incorporating in Delaware so why not.

And #3 would suggest the involvement of some high-rolling attorneys or bankers or both. Maybe they just don't want to alienate potential clients, but I doubt it.

The only UNC player I can recall seeing in an ad is the Marriott Bonvoy commercial with Elliott Cadeau marching out with the band. Are RJ's 21 separate deals mostly local stuff in the Triangle? Because I don't remember having seen him in ads, either on TV or online.

So you read that WSJ article and came away thinking it’s greatly overblown that UNC is behind (at least) dook? Or Kentucky? Or all the SEC football schools you same posters are whining that UNC is falling behind?

I don’t have a peek behind the curtain but Occam’s razor would certainly disagree.

I think his wife has been shaving her legs with it.

Maybe it's a problem getting deals for all the players. I don't know. Just odd that people have been saying NIL is the problem and RJ had the most NIL deals. Either way, no reason to attack anyone personally just for their opinions about the state of the basketball program.

I have no idea since I don’t live anywhere near there but I would guess it’s primarily social media. This is how people like Livvy Dunne get rich. Not that RJ is anywhere in that league.

Regarding your first part, if that's the your belief, do you feel like UNC is shady?

Do you know if all of the folks involved have no ties to Delaware?

Once again, how much in NIL are the players at those schools getting? I have no idea, nor am I privy to the information that Greg is. Hence, I tend to give his comments more weight than those that are not privy - being me. Are you just assuming, or do you have inside info?
