Jonathon Powell!Saw on Facebook that we got a portal transfer
What you're saying is generally true with respect to situations where Cadeau had the ball in his hands but it's also largely a distinction without a difference. Teams are scared of, say, Shai Gilgeous Alexander driving the ball too, but they can't defend him like Cadeau because he's a good shooter and will punish drop coverage or otherwise teams sagging off of him. Cadeau is a great driving the ball and a great passer on the PNR but is unable to fully take advantage of either because teams can defend him by just dropping into the lane, taking away the pass and the drive, and daring him to shoot, which they were happy to do.I think your second point is not quite contextually correct. Teams didn't "largely disregard him as a perimeter threat" as much as he was a much larger threat as a driver and so they "chose their poison" to go under screens and risk him shooting a 3 rather than giving him the opportunity to use the screen to get a clear lane to the basket.
I didn't see teams giving him the Alabama treatment last year. Stopping EC from shooting 3s wasn't a focal point of the other team's defensive strategy, but they also weren't ignoring him behind the line, either. He was a competent 3pt shooter on a low number of attempts who defenses focused on not allowing to drive to the basket.
Not a PG at all. Wing shooter. And hopefully more of a rotation piece next year.I guess that's the new PG. Only averaged 8 points a game, shot 35% from 3, and seems he took care of the ball pretty good
OK. I read guard and that he had the 4th lowest turnovers in the conference and thought he was a PG. A SG that only averaged 8 points doesn't seem like that big of a deal for a starter. Not a PG at all. Wing shooter. And hopefully more of a rotation piece next year.
He is our backup Powell. Always need at least one Powell on the roster. Not a PG at all. Wing shooter. And hopefully more of a rotation piece next year.
IJ replacement.I guess that's the new PG. Only averaged 8 points a game, shot 35% from 3, and seems he took care of the ball pretty good
My initial post about EC's 3pt shooting was in response to a post that stated that he had shown only a "little bit" of improvement in that area, that claim is false. Cadeau is a great driving the ball and a great passer on the PNR but is unable to fully take advantage of either because teams can defend him by just dropping into the lane, taking away the pass and the drive, and daring him to shoot, which they were happy to do.
But you're also ignoring that teams didn't just treat Cadeau like that when he had the ball in his hands, they treated him like that when he was off the ball too, That's what really gums up spacing offensively, when teams can drop defenders into the paint to clog up all sorts of actions. That isn't due to respect for Cadeau's driving ability; it's taking advantage of a weakness to take away other things the offense wants to do.
Finally, I think you're giving Cadeau's 3pt percentage a little too much credit. Yes, 33% was a huge improvement from where he was before, but that 33% came on shots that were much more likely to be wide open or lightly contested than those taken by, say, RJ Davis. 33% overall is respectable, but 33% on mostly open looks is just not that good. My guess would be if Adrian Atkinson showed us the numbers, Cadeau's percentage on "juicy" (wide open) threes would be materially below average.
So to return to my main point: yes, Cadeau was materially improved as a 3pt shooter from his freshman year, enough so that you could be optimistic for further growth, but it was still such a relative weakness last year that it kept him (and the team) from being able to get as much as they wanted out of his strengths.

If Drake and Ian leave they are going to need more than 8 points a game from the new Powell.IJ replacement.
Pretty sure both IJ and Drake will be leaving. If Drake and Ian leave they are going to need more than 8 points a game from the new Powell.
It is not. When you are looking to get 8 players in the portal, you need singles and doubles, too. Not just home runs.Maybe I'm just expecting too much. A 35% shooter from 3 averaging 8 points a game doesn't seem that big of a deal.
