FWIW, sometimes it's better to cut bait with a talented player if he is causing problems for the team, even if he's the best player. NBA teams do it commonly. They tell disgruntled players to just stay at home.

If EC was part of the reason why the team's chemistry seemed off (and I have no idea if it was; just inferring that it might be from his parting comments), then losing him can be addition by subtraction even if the replacement is not better in a strictly basketball sense.
Sort of like losing Caleb but acquiring Ingram and Ryan. Perhaps losing EC but gaining others may work similarly. I know I’d take an ACC reg season championship and a #1 seed next year.

On a side note I went over today and read the IC free basketball board for the first time in many months to see what they had posted on the epic dook loss. You'd think they would at least be happy that dook lost in humiliating fashion, but nope, on a thread discussing dook's choke job they still had plenty of posters claiming that our "collapse" to Kansas in 2022 in the second half was actually worse than dook's implosion last night, that given the state of our basketball program that they couldn't take any joy from an epic dook defeat, that Scheyer was still learning and getting better and would still be a great coach, and so on. They have some good posters over there, and they did have some who were happy about dook's defeat, but there are also just a ton of really miserable people on that board. I'm so happy this board was created and I don't need to go over there any more.

Not many good ones, not many at all.

This happens everywhere.
The best programs will maximize continuity at a program level and keep turnover to a reasonably minimal level as continuity assists in team-building.

We're on our second large-scale turnover in the last 3 years in only 4 years under Hubert.

It worked out pretty good last time.

I mean, yeah...kinda. The regular season was great, but the S16 loss was a bit annoying.

And that was after we brought back both RJ and Bacot as featured players. We don't have nearly that much known to be returning this time. These kind of extreme makeovers are hard to nail consistently.

Tell me about it. I had great seats (after the Zona fans left) to watch Withers brick the 3 pointer.

I'm assuming we are not going to have Jackson and Powell to bring back as featured players. And yes, Hubert has a daunting task to make things work this off season. The good news is that a change will be made if we aren't much better next year.

This is not the only message board where I post nor the only social media and frankly I hear from an alarming number of Carolina Basketball fans, many of them alumni, that clearly do not "want to carry on The Carolina Way," at least in any way that I recognize it.

But then that calls into question "how does one define The Carolina Way?"
This is a bit off the top of my head, but here's how I'd define it...

- Success on the court
- Good sportsmanship
- Success in the classroom
- Professional development toward pro career
- Personal development toward creating good people
- High ethical actions by staff in building/maintaining the program
- Program is a positive influence on the community

I think there's a related concept of The Carolina Family that connects players and coaches across the years, but I don't think that's a part of The Carolina Way, per se.

I haven't been to the free board in years. The premium board is enough for me, thank you.

The best programs have a similar turnover rate. I posted some examples several days ago.

I like that list...of the things there that I find far too many UNC 'fans' utterly unconcerned with I number:

- Success in the classroom
- Personal development toward creating good people
- High ethical actions by staff in building/maintaining the program
- Program is a positive influence on the community

I don't mean to sound like a tinfoil conspiracy theorist, but I still remember watching the board buckle under Bacot's foot live. No need for a replay or a slo mo look, it was obvious IN REAL TIME that he missed the layup because of a weak seam in the floor. While those two points wouldn't have clinched the game, they surely would've shifted the game pressure back to KU. The fact that this isn't talked about more is beyond me.
