Not for athletes. They are paid professionals honing their craft. There's not really any reason for classes, GPAs, etc. anymore, right?

Sharing this now, even though it's from 3 or 4 months ago - maybe longer??? Anyway, the way Joel Berry talks about the team that we had at that time, I'm sorta glad to see most of them gone. If Joel Berry is accurate with his description of that version of the Carolina Basketball team (and he was, because we all saw it play out most of last season) then we simply didn't have enough dawgs and there wasn't enough grit and "want to". Was there some talent? Sure. But not enough "want to". Unfortunately that's been the case more often than not, save for a couple of seasons, even going back to the last 2-3 years of Roy's teams.
So, if we take a step back talent-wise, but two steps forward with grit and "want to" with this new portal group (BTW I think Seth is one of the few guys on last year's team that has/had the grit) then I think Joel Berry and I will be just fine, thank you.

Well, presumably the university is going to receive licensing fees for the use of its name and trademarks. And one also supposes that the LLC will rent back the facilities. That would, I imagine, be enough for Title IX to continue to apply. I don't know title IX law hardly at all, and I'm not interested in looking up the details right now. My intuition says that the LLC can't evade Title IX just because it's incorporated on its own, so long as it continues to function as the athletic department for the University of Kentucky. As a private entity they will probably try to skirt Title 9 requirements. This could spell the death of non-revenue sports.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Congress formally amend Title IX - although that may be awkward given their sudden interest in the purity of women’s sport.Well, presumably the university is going to receive licensing fees for the use of its name and trademarks. The Ed department can still issue a clarifying regulation. It just would be easier to attack in court. In practice, I'm just not sure how much difference Chevron elimination will make (as we discussed last year when it happened). Gorsuch was never obeying Chevron in the first place. Any rule that can be evaded by judges' self-confidence will be evaded.Wouldn’t be surprised to see Congress formally amend Title IX - although that may be awkward given their sudden interest in the purity of women’s sport.
If Chevron had not been overturned, the Ed department could just issue a clarifying regulation, but oh well.
The longer it goes, the better it is for us.Don't read too much into this but feeling good about AS..

It does feel like breaking up and then going back to your ex.I haven’t watched enough Stojakovic to have much of an opinion. But I do know that transferring from Stanford to Cal, and now considering Stanford again… makes me question his character a bit. Going from one to the other is just like transferring from dook to Carolina or vice versa. And then back again.
I’m guessing he didn’t like Haase who is of course a Roy system guy. It doesn’t scream that he’s a fit, and my gut is to just assume he goes elsewhere.
He entered the portal a couple days after Haase was fired from Stanford. So maybe he liked Haase and part of the reason he transferred was because Haase would not be his coach the following season. But regardless of the primary reason, it didn’t have anything to do with Haase, since Haase was gone at that point.I haven’t watched enough Stojakovic to have much of an opinion. About 20-25 years ago, I worked for a Silicon Valley company. My boss was a Stanford guy - he’d been their deep snapper. He HATED Cal. HATED. ncsulol hate for UNC hate. Visceral hatred.I haven’t watched enough Stojakovic to have much of an opinion. Yeah, for the alums of each school, especially those into sports, it can be a deep rivalry.About 20-25 years ago, I worked for a Silicon Valley company. My boss was a Stanford guy - he’d been their deep snapper. He HATED Cal. HATED. ncsulol hate for UNC hate. Visceral hatred.
That was one of his worst games of the year. I wouldn't judge him on that single game any more than you should judge Dawson Garcia on his freshman game for Marquette in Chapel Hill. One game is not a good sample size.I've only seen him in the game against us and I took another look at it. He's a smart player and nice vision - dropped some great dimes in the 2d half (first half he was a ghost). His foot speed is closer to Cade Tyson than Ian Jackson, he got abused off the dribble and on screens by Ian, Drake and RJ. He camps out at the 3 point line and doesn't crash the boards. On defense he has length but that's about it. Both Ian and Drake hit threes over him anyway.
Not sure why I care enough to type any of this. I'm just procrastinating on a Sunday.![]()
