I think that a lot of folks' issue with Oats, me included, is how he handled the shooting by one of his players involving a number of his players.
I don't care for Oats at all, he just strikes me as a poor fit for UNC with a win-at-any-cost mentality, and his handling of the shooting involving his player and his public statements about it were pretty appalling, imo. I have issues with Golden for similar reasons, namely accusations from multiple women (including UF coeds) of physical stalking and cyberstalking, sending photos of his genitals to various younger women, and sexually harassing women on social media sites. Although he was cleared of Title IX violations, there was enough smoke around the charges that I would definitely prefer he not become our next coach. For me personally Oats and Golden are near or at the bottom of the list of coaches we should be looking at.

For real? Seriously? Surely this is a joke. What did the interviewer say?
I didn’t hear the discussion, I got out of my car while they were still teasing the interview. But Doherty and Kyle Bailey work for two different radio stations owned by the same company in the same building, Doherty on the “news talk” side and Bailey on the “sports talk” side. They see each other in the hallway every day, so it was never going to be a situation where Doherty would be challenged on such an assertion.

On Charlotte radio, your guy Matt Doherty was asked if he felt Hubert was treated unfairly. Doherty responded that Hubert definitely wasn’t treated unfairly, if you want to see unfairly you need to go back to 2003, when he was fired by UNC.
Doesn't surprise me at all, and if true it's a ridiculous statement. He's always the victim in his mind - Doherty is a true Trumper, imo.

Kenny the Jet was heated about the HD firing on CBS just now. Seems to think Carolina basketball is in a very dangerous place.

The admin and the job itself also took a beating on TBS earlier with Lefco, Jalen Rose, Bruce Pearl, and Mashburn. Aside from going to bat for HD they said the job is not what it used to be. Random SEC schools (like LSU was thrown out there) are more popular destinations for coaches now that money has leveled the playing field.

Seems like plenty of nationally prominent voices with some interesting takes.

There will be plenty on both sides. I'm not surprised that Hubert is still thought of as a little bit one of them. There'll be others that just want to take a shot at Carolina.

Carolina basketball is definitely in a perilous position at the moment. But keeping Hubert as the coach would not have changed that, and in fact probably would have made our situation even more perilous given the cratering booster support.

Just saying, haven’t heard anything from the other side outside of this board.

Not great when the national voices don’t like what you did, how and when you did it, or the prospects for doing better than HD.

Whether or not they’re right is irrelevant when you’re getting disparaged in front of the college basketball world on the biggest stages.

Something many didn’t consider the possibility of happening.

Eh, this is the modern media cycle. These sorts of statements will be forgotten in a week and swallowed up by the attention over whoever the new hire is. If the new coach wins, it will ultimately be fine and everything will be forgotten. If he doesn't win, there will be a lot of "I told you so's" and maybe the old-school family people will force a "family" hire the next time around (assuming there is a viable "family" candidate, which doesn't exist right now).

But again, the real danger for UNC bball as a brand that is nationally recognized as "special" is becoming a place where we don't consistently win anymore, or expect to be one of the premier bball programs in the country.

If part of their criticism of firing HD is that UNC is now on par with mid-level SEC programs, that doesn’t seem like a very persuasive argument for maintaining the status quo.

Fair point but the points they made were tangential. It was more like HD got shafted, and separately don’t expect people to be tripping over themselves to line to for the job.

Obviously- uncle eternal is born bred unc... that being said, for the ppl in the back, the whole school part of college sports is dead, thus college sports is dead. The future is dim for most ppl and with dark money gone rogue, unc ain't it.

I'd cheer for us if we go ofer. i 51% expect lots of swings and misses and for the administration and the loser faction of the base to be a laughing stock.

Just a note...the question that Kenny was initially answering was his reaction to the idea thrown out by Stephen A Smith that Kenny should be the next HC at Carolina. That's what he was referring to as "disrespectiful" in the very beginning of this remarks.
