Lost in the commotion from last night was how truly horrific the officiating was in the final two minutes.

We had three terrible calls go against us, each of which helped decide the game:

1. The phantom foul on Trimble when the VCU player tripped over his teammate and wasn't touched by a UNC player. That lead to VCU points.
2. The turnover on the following inbounds play where our player (I forget which one) was hit on the back by the VCU player and lost the ball out of bounds.
3. HV's turnover in the final seconds when he was clearly fouled and nothing was called.

The way I would run this search would be to start with Lloyd and May as obvious home runs. Both of them already have almost perfect setups at their current jobs so they more than likely say no, but you’re UNC. You have to at least try.

If/when you make those two say no, I think the smart thing to do is to make a list of a handful of guys that have shown that they can successfully run a college program under the current NIL/transfer rules setup and would likely jump at our job if offered because they are at programs that are a clear step down from UNC. Otzelberger, Byington, McCasland, Odom, etc. Also consider even more under the radar options at smaller schools. Look at the coaches for the top teams in the tournament this year. For the most part they were at relatively obscure schools before their current position.

Of that aforementioned cohort, I don’t have a specific name that I favor over the rest at this point. Just want to see UNC do its diligence with that type of candidate and find the best fit based on how the background checks and interviews play out.

Some of the usual names that get floated in this conversation need to be nipped in the bud. Stevens, Wright, Mike Malone, Wes Miller, Billy Donovan. None of those guys are even remotely realistic options, for various reasons.

Actually Trimble did make a little contact when the guy was on the floor. Of course, the guy had already traveled and it was about a fifth of the contact as there was on the TO by HV but he did actually touch him. I saw it on one of the replays.

2. I think that was Powell and yes he was fouled but not called.

Yeah, it was too bad Trimble was reaching in as the guy was in the process of falling down. Bad call, but hard to argue that Trimble was reaching in. The HV no call though - you can't expect that kind of call at the end of the game. There was contact, but we were soft. Trimble didn't cut to the ball hard enough. Terrible execution.

Make a free throw and it doesn't matter.

Now that the season is over I think the time is right to suggest potential candidates.

I'll start with Tommy Lloyd- would be a home run, unlikely to leave Arizona
You have spent the past two years telling me and anyone who questioned a decision HD made, that we are not true fans, or simply labeling us as a "Hubert hater," "anti-Hubert," and so on. You said that as long as HD is the coach then you are going to support everything he does, as would any true fan. Fucking ad nauseam with your toxic positivity shit. Now, you're suggesting we look at replacements. Get the fuck outta here with your bullshit. You're either full of shit now, or then.

So we have:
1-Lloyd - Unlikely to leave ARZ
2-May - Unlikely to leave Michigan

3- Sampson- Don't see it
4- Young/Oats- UNC probably won't hire
5- Otzelberger, Byington, McCasland, Odom- no sure things here, but likely the level of candidate that will work

9-Group of younger less proven guys (Martelli types). These guys can be had.

10- Old faves: Stevens, Wright, Mike Malone, Wes Miller, Billy Donovan. Don't seem viable.

The other question is how soon do you move to replace Hubert - do you make sure you've got the replacement lined up? A couple of the obvious Candidates have teams still in the tournament - are you going to wait til afterwards to make a move?

Do we have enough NIL money to be at the very top in basketball and also have enough to field a good team in football? Honest question.
Being top 5-10 in basketball NIL isn’t going to get the job done if dook is #1 in basketball NIL every year.

1. I'm pretty sure you're exaggerating Bigs' posts
2. Is it bad to change one's mind with the presentation of new facts?

I've been on the fence about HD and haven't wanted to stake out a position because I don't know very much. But I can now see that HD won't survive this. So it's best to cut ties immediately. Even if it wasn't HD's fault, even if the critics are wrong -- it doesn't matter because the narrative is completely set. The concrete is dry and there is nothing more to be written in the minds of the fan base. He will not have the support of enough of the fans to be successful.

I don't think I'm being hypocritical or full of shit. I think I'm trying to assess the situation to the best of my ability.
