Hubert Davis Catch-all

Look at all of the coaches for the top teams in the country right now. Almost all of them were not proven head coaches at powerhouse programs before they got to their current team.

I don’t think it’s worth getting bent out of shape and acting like hope is lost if we can’t land May, Lloyd, or Stevens. The people in charge just have to be diligent and actually run a thorough coaching search.

Right now, my brain is still fried. I figured I'd be over it in a day or two like I usually am, but that's simply not the truth. I'm actually angrier than I was the night of the loss. One of my great joys in life has been to have exciting, nerve-wracking weekends watching the Heels compete in the ACC tourney and the NCAA tourney. I'm speaking strictly from a place of selfishness here, and I fully accept sounding like an entitled, whiny fan. But Hubert Davis has robbed me of those weekends, because we seem to get eliminated before the weekends even begin. And it makes me angry. I want my basketball weekends back.

People need to stop with the Brad Stevens / Jay Wright / Tony Bennett stuff. Those guys quit coaching for a reason and the landscape of college basketball has only further deteriorated since then. This is especially true for Stevens considering NIL and the transfer portal weren't even a thing back when he quit coaching. It would require a complete change of heart for any of those guys to return to the sidelines.

While I would certainly would be excited about a Brad Stevens hire, I do also share some your pessimism. As you said, he has not coached college basketball in 15 years. He also didn’t coach college that long. While he did reach national championship games in a row, which is a great accomplishment, he did so in two of the weakest years of college basketball. He also had double-digit loss seasons in 2 of his last 3 seasons out of the 6 total seasons he coached in college (granted, he reached the national championship in the first of those), with his second to last being 22-15. In the years he did not reach the national championship, he never made it past the first weekend of the NCAAT.

Again, I’d be very excited if he were the hire, but I’m not sure he’s as proven as many people think.

Yeah, and I spent the day with people whose names are on athletic facilities as well as several of our ADs and none of those people have any real idea where it is headed. That makes me dubious of those who claim to have real sources here.

There is a very real Brad Stevens rumor out there in the wild, but it's nowhere near solid like theel4life is making it sound.
