IC going to On3

If Andrew Jones is going to be the new "247sports.com/college/north-carolina/" chief, then his user-base is about to explode. I don't have any numbers, but i'm guessing the number of IC users (who will continue to have free-board or paid-subscription) as of Aug 1 will dwarf the head-count he ever had at tarheelillustrated aka northcarolina.forums.rivals.com.

It will be interesting to see what he tries to do to keep everyone's interest.

What happened to the people who had Rivals accounts at tarheelillustrated? I wonder if they were moved to on3 forums instead... and i wonder if they'll stay at on3 or move with AJ to 247 (free-board or othewise).

I just took a look at the 247 ZZL board, to kind of be a witness to the sinking ship. Astounding; it's not a ship at all, it's a ragged tiny raft. A few people who post over and over (rotawa68 with thousands of posts of a few words, on dozens of threads over recent pages). Dull threads on nothing much at all, and then if an interesting one arises it's locked by UNChris2001. For example, somebody posted a thread, "Pretty impressive Pearl Harbor like strike by Ukraine today," and after that one single post it was locked as politics. There's a thread about the pending change, and it's full of silly, angry cheap shots at all of this board's participants, depicted as one viewpoint, when there is no viewpoint of real interest even allowed on that raft at this point.

I believe the order goes...

1990s: IC (pre Buck or Ben) is on Rivals

Late 2000: Buck (& TheTarPit) buys IC

Early 2001: Rivals essentially folds

Slightly later 2001: IC moves to TheInsiders

July 2001: UNCbb (Ben) joins with IC (Buck)

2003?: TheInsiders rebranded as Scout (no message board transition)

2005: Scout was bought out by FoxSports and was to be rebranded as FoxSportsNext (failed message board transition in 2006/7?)

2013: FoxSports spun off Scout to North America Media Group (no message board transition, but we did get the spinning butthole)

2017: NAMG goes bankrupt, Scout acquired by 247Sports (message board transition, but mostly upgrades as 247 had no real message board community)

2025: IC goes from 247 to On3
Wow, do you have this written down somewhere or are you going solely by memory?

Based on the above, it does not appear that IC has ever switched networks voluntarily before -- unless the 2001 move from Rivals to Insiders was not a network-wide switch.

In that case, we are in unchartered territory here and perhaps I am giving Buck and Ben more credit than is warranted.

the spinning butthole with trumpetbutt added fingering was fuckin' awesome and just one of many reasons why the IC of old was awesome buy is just a bygone era.

I started posting in 2002 after the 8-20 season on GoHeels. Something happened at GoHeels and everybody pretty much moved to IC. I don’t know if it was a merger, buyout, or if GoHeels just ceased to function and IC was the recommended landing spot. Does anyone else remember GoHeels and know how that fit into the timeline Snoop laid out?

GoHeels was bought by UNC sports media and they discontinued the message boards.

So, after a little browse I saw that numerous folks were saying their username was taken which seemed odd to me because they were Carolina specific unique usernames for the most part.

Then I saw this:

I think they tried to import the user accounts from IC and realized it was so much harder than anticipated so have essentially given up.

I could be wrong but the fact that he posted that on July 6th and has never followed up or spoken of it again seems to indicate calamity.

i can’t give that guy any money. He looks awful. classic trumper to promise the best website ever, not do what he said, and go quiet as it gets close

I just got charged my annual fee to 247. I’m assuming that fee won’t carry over to IC’s new site. The email said I could cancel and, I’m assuming, get a refund. I’ll have to do that.

I had the changes pretty much right, but was a bit off on some of the exact years for the changes; I reinforced the dates by looking at the "History of IC" from a couple of years ago and a small bit of google searching.

Were you farce on GoHeels? I was a regular on that board. It was unmoderated. When GH shut down, there was UNCBB and whatever Zeke Martins board was called. Now, he was a character. Anyway, some of us went to an off-shoot EZboard called TarHeelLand. Eventually, it fizzled.

My renewal date was 7/30/2025 (just cancelled) so the timing of the move worked out pretty well for myself.

Guess it's finally time to activate the free Paramount+ offer included with my Walmart+ subscription. It's my understanding that you can add Showtime to that for a small fee, so might do that just long enough to finish up the new season of Dexter (which has sucked as bad as the previous one but the girlfriend likes it so....).

No. My username on GoHeels included my real last name. I was a newbie to message boards (or any social media for that matter) and didn’t understand the value of anonymity. When I moved to IC I decided not to broadcast my actual name. I’m not paranoid about it and have met up with several posters in person, but I figured it was best to keep some semblance of anonymity from lurkers.
