IC going to On3

I've participated in several message boards for decades, and in various ways the single most amazing thread I have ever seen anywhere was the ZZL one about the disappearance of flight MH370. It (thread) began within minutes of the first announcement and lasted for I think 5-6 years. It kept getting bumped as there was continually no good explanation, and it featured hundreds of posters all engaged in speculations and news on what remains one of the great mysteries in modern human history.

I wish that thread could be preserved--just for how amazing it was in so many contributions from so many for so long--but I can't find it now.

Maybe it's not as interesting to others as it is to me though...
My bar is much lower. I think Coney may have been my favorite thread

I’m undecided on what to do. I’m still locked in at the 247 site for a few months. Probably should give the new site a try at the intro rate. But it’s been a little off-putting the way this has been handled from all sides (not saying that’s anyone’s fault, or trying to opine on whose fault it is - but the way everyone has apparently felt contractually obligated to communicate about this has made for a bit of a confusing transition, one that suggests some animosity between the two sides).

In the end this may end up being an excuse to ditch a paid subscription to a UNC message board. But if Ben Sherman comes here to personally recruit us to the new IC, I may reconsider.
As I understand, there was a strict NDA in place from 247 so IC couldn't say a word till midnight. Lawyers were approving what little was said.

I figure for big football and Men's basketball news I can get that here - I was mainly going to IC at this point to go to the women's basketball board and the baseball board and some of the Olympic sports boards just to get updates - if those stay on the Andrew jones run boards I may just keep going there

Did he mention anything about a change in ownership structure?
Not specifically...

"Disappointing to hear. Everyone else at 247 has been great - we got so many calls and texts from the people that work there the last week that wished us well and said they understood our move. But this explains a lot (we wondered who was making up and spreading rumors). Not going to let one bad apple steer us away from taking the high road."

Also…

“Beginning July 1, we changed our 247Sports price points to $199.99 for an annual subscription and $12.99 for a monthly subscription. The overwhelming majority of you are paying much less than that, somewhere in the neighborhood of $110 annual and $10 monthly depending on taxes, etc. You are grandfathered in at those prices - and as long as you do not cancel you will continue to have those lower rates.”

Wait, they’re charging $199.99 for an annual subscription and $155.88 per year if you pay monthly?

I get that the annual subscription comes with Paramount+, but that’s some impressive mathing.
Apparently, the new annual subscription price is $119.99 per year, not $199.99.

Just a piece of advice to 247, never let Kevin Ryan near anything that takes accuracy or diplomacy as a main piece of the work.

good choice. MH370 is my roman empire.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that was the case - it just made the transition process tough on the users.
247 and IC could (and should) have come to some agreement regarding an announcement once the deal was done that would have informed subscribers (and the public) about the changes that were to take place.

Given that 247 was targeting IC monthly subscribers to try to get them to convert to an annual subscription with huge discounts - while not mentioning the upcoming transition - as late as Wednesday/Thursday, we can easily guess which side refused to participate in the informing the public in a transparent manner.

I agree, though, that this made everything tough on the users. I don't mean any shade to Andrew Jones and his new local staff, but 247 has seemingly behaved like a jilted lover during this transition.

NDA might also be a specific legal term that I have wrong, might have just been part of the contract or whatever. All i know, the mods were told that we could not talk about things till 8/1.

Sorry I am a bit fuzzy. I was up till 3:45 am helping with the transition.

Signed up this am. The new site seems similar with updated graphics. I'm just going to have to figure out how to cancel my old 247 subscription.

The mixing of free and premium content on the free board is a non starter for me. More than half the posts are de facto ads to buy premium.

So after all the "all will be revealed Aug 1" comments for the last month... has anybody actually explained what happened? As far as I can tell, 247/Kevin is saying IC left with only a vague explanation that it was related to "ownership change", and Ben/IC is giving vague hints is was about platform tech and unwillingness to invest.
