I am sure Trump will get that apology out ASAP....

More likely the campaign is trying to distract him with Cheeseburgers so he doesn't go out and call Puerto Rico a shithole country.
They are already trying to back away from it. In related news, Stephen Cheung is nowhere to be seen.

Whether there will be an apology or not, it will likely be a day late and a dollar short.

Very grateful I got the experience of living in Puerto Rico growing up. I know first hand you don’t fuck with them. They will not forget this. Now that we have the scoop of trumps team signing off on Hinchcliff’s routine he can’t use his “I don’t know him/her” routine to skirt the blame.

Would not be shocked if this generates a new push for statehood if Harris wins
Puerto Rico is never getting statehood, unless we add some conservative states by dividing Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington and Eastern California. If we did that, then we could add DC, Puerto Rico and one other.

Why? It takes one act of Congress. We could create a hundred new states if someone wanted.

If there is a blue wave, and Harris wins and the Dems control both chambers, this and SCOTUS reform (either expand or term limits) are I hope the top 2 items on the agenda.

I’d go all in and push for California be split northern/southern, but would “settle” for PR & DC.

I really think the Puerto Rico thing would have blown over and forgotten by now if Trump had forcefully denounced the remarks at the rally.

But the first rules of Trumpism are never apologize and never admit a mistake under any circumstances, so I think he's physically incapable of that.

Maybe in the press but not among the Puerto Ricans. That especially true since the reports that those jokes were vetted have come out.

I mean, not that their behavior is surprising but …

I’ve always thought the 1992 GOP Convention, particularly Pat Buchanan’s speech, was the most destructive thing that happened to the GHWB re-election campaign. It wasn’t just Buchanan, though his speech was the culmination of the turn toward far right militia and other groups by an already desperate Bush campaign.

Flashback:

“…, Patrick J. Buchanan rocked the Republican convention in Houston by declaring there was a “cultural war” taking place for the soul of America, denouncing the Democratic Party as one that supported abortion, radical feminism and the “homosexual rights movement.”

“The agenda Clinton and Clinton would impose on America — abortion on demand, a litmus test for the Supreme Court, homosexual rights, discrimination against religious schools, women in combat — that’s change, all right,” said Mr. Buchanan, a conservative commentator who was a rival to President George Bush in the 1992 campaign. “But it is not the kind of change America wants.”

The speech — along with similarly sharp-edged addresses by the evangelist Pat Robertson and Marilyn Quayle, the wife of Vice President Dan Quayle — pushed issues like abortion, gay rights, religion and the role of women in society to the front of the stage, often loudly. Supporters of Mr. Bush pointed to the tone of the convention as one of the reasons he lost the election that November to Bill Clinton. …”

Yes. It was indeed the "October Surprise" - at least according to my favorite, Dr. Heather Cox Richardson
