A Donald Trump supporter who stood in front of a gallows and spoke of his desire to hang Democratic politicians before he assaulted numerous police officers during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Friday.

It's among the longest sentences handed out in a Jan. 6 case to date.

Prosecutors had sought more than 21 years (262 months) for David Dempsey, saying he "viciously" assaulted law enforcement officers at the lower west tunnel of the Capitol, where some of the worst violence took place that day. According to prosecutors, Dempsey climbed over fellow rioters "like human scaffolding" and used "his hands, feet, flag poles, crutches, pepper spray, broken pieces of furniture, and anything else he could get his hands on" as weapons against police officers.

"Dempsey was one of the most violent rioters, during one of the most violent stretches of time, at the scene of the most violent confrontations at the Capitol on January 6, 2021," prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memo.

Dempsey assaulted numerous officers but pleaded guilty specifically in connection with attacks on Washington Police Detective Phuson Nguyen, whom he hit with "a torrent of pepper spray" just after another rioter compromised Nguyen's mask, and Washington Police Sgt. Jason Mastony, who was hit so hard with a metal crutch that he collapsed in a daze and was left with a gash in his head, prosecutors wrote.

He got off easy.

20 years for pleading guilty to violently assaulting two police officers seems about right. Good riddance.

Edit: this wasn't his first offense. In addition to various burglary and assault convictions, he was also convicted of bear spraying a group of peaceful anti-Trump protesters. 20 years seem light for that psycho.

This guy and so many other Jan. 6th hoodlums are pinning their whole future on Trump getting elected. He may even pardon the worst ones the soonest.

First insurrectionist to breach the Capital just got sentenced to 4 years. Was unrepentant, still claiming Trump won and that we are currently living under tyranny.

Hope he enjoys a true loss of freedom.
To paraphrase Charles Dickens, "If MAGA supposes that, then MAGA is a ass — a idiot. If that's that's what MAGA believes, then the worst I wish this particular MAGAat is, that his eye may be opened by experience — by experience!"

Jay Johnston, a comedian and actor who voiced Jimmy Pesto Sr. on the Fox sitcom “Bob’s Burgers,” was sentenced to a year and a day in prison over his involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Mr. Johnston, 55, pleaded guilty in July to a felony charge of obstruction of law enforcement after reaching a plea agreement that dropped three other charges originally brought against him. The actor was arrested in June 2023 in California with the help of internet sleuths who identified Mr. Johnston after the F.B.I. posted photos of him at the Capitol during the riot. Three other people who know Mr. Johnston also identified him.

While Mr. Johnston is best known for his role in “Bob’s Burgers,” he was a regular on the 1990s sketch comedy show, “Mr. Show with Bob and David,” as well as on “The Sarah Silverman Program.” He has mostly starred in comedies on television and in movies.

Throwaway the key!

Of course, the people investigating the genesis of J6 and the violent insurrectionists should go to jail
