1. Suppose that's true. Then why did we go through all of this? First, the market will not come roaring back because the damage has been done. The US has lost all credibility. Nobody will ever believe -- as long as Trump is in charge at least -- that the tariffs are over. Trump can bring them back at any time.
2. What makes you think this is true? Trump is promising to expand the tariffs. He's promising to make them universal. He's going to tariff the whole world on April 2, he says. Do you think he's lying?
3. If it was all kabuki theater, why did he do it? Don't you see that as a horrible thing to do? He's created economic anxiety for tens of millions of Americans, and for what?
4. Maybe you haven't noticed, but the economy is cratering. One reason for that is the economic uncertainty. Businesses can't operate if they have no visibility into their costs, or demand for their products. People get laid off when production shutters, and re-hiring them is not so simple.
5. What will have to happen for you to admit you were wrong? What if GM and Ford go bankrupt? Will you admit then that it was all a huge fuckup? What if GDP declines by 2-3%? It seems to me that your position is "Trump can do no wrong and I'm not going to be open to the possibility that he might" and that's just ignorant and ridiculous.
