Just to be clear, I haven't ever labeled someone a bigot or a transphobe for being fundamentally opposed to gender affirming healthcare for youth, and I never will. I understand that it's a valid opinion, even if it's one with which I disagree. I just personally do not think that health care decisions belong in the hands of government or politicians, period. And I also think that anyone who wants gender affirming care banned, even when it does not personalyl affect them or impact them in any way, is extremely selfish. But I'm not going to call them bigoted or transphobic.
Cford. This is the kind of thing I am referring to.

You are trying to be polite and respectful, and you do a pretty good job. But the thing is, you are respecting the bigots, while not caring about a child who actually feels trans. At age 15, let's say, they know. Who they are attracted to, what they want to wear, etc.

But people like Zen, based on almost entirely on right wing propaganda, want to negatively affect their lives. For NO REASON.

Most people who claim gender affirming teenage care is harmful haven't met a single trans person. Almost 000001% have met one who regrets a transition.

This is all right wing solutions to a problem that doesn't exist, the comprehensive platform of conservatives for about 40 years, since Fox News indoctrination began.

Why do you think that is? I'll tell you. For votes, for instilling fear in the populace, and for instilling permanent conservative rule for the rest of our lives.

I plan on doing something about it. I hope eventually you will too.

I think all of that is completely fair and valid, and I think I agree with all of it. I especially agree that the transgender issue is a completely concocted, fabricated, exaggerated culture war wedge issue for the right wingers in this country, and I'm personally disgusted by their insistence on further marginalizing innocent people who are just trying to live their lives.

I suppose I just have a difficult time labeling folks as racists, homophobes, transphobes, bigots, etc. because I think that for many people, it's a lack of education and a lack of understanding as opposed to an outright desire to be a bully. (Admittedly, for far too many others, the cruelty is absolutely the point). And I just fear that labeling folks as transphobic, bigots, etc. will reflexively and automatically shut them off to even further education or reconsideration of their positions.

Take me, for example. I am entirely certain I once held views that would be classified as racist, homophobic, transphobic, and bigoted. But it was because of a lot of people- including many in this very ZZLP community- and a lot of lived and learned experiences, that I was willing and able to reconsider my views and have a change of heart. And I just want to give others the opportunity to do the same.

I hear you. It is important to realize they are absolutely being a bully. It's ok to say it. I am gravitating into that territory, for democratic reasons.

I really wanted to give my family and friends time, but it is running out. I am resigned to my fate. Stop bullying, stop what is happening right now.

Lmfao. Transgender Tourettes meets Democrat Derangement Syndrome. Quick little 10th grade level civics lesson: the bill needed 60 votes to pass. Why the hell would any Democrat cast a vote to help a Republican bill pass?

Because a majority of people on the left support it. Not a single dem senator voted for something the common folks left voter supports. Just more ammunition the right has to show how out of touch the party is and to further drive home the message that the left is waging war on women.

lol. You clearly have no understanding of politics. There is no incentive for the Democratic Party to help the Republican Party pass any legislation whatsoever. None. The Republicans have majorities in both houses of Congress. Either get your shit passed on your own, or present legislation that features enough concessions to warrant support from the minority party. Can’t do that? Tough luck, buttercup. Kudos to those 45 Democratic Senators for not playing into the GOP’s transparently pathetic political theater.

Also, best of luck to the GOP getting people to give a shit about transgender people playing sports next year this time when we are balls deep in the worst economic recession in generations!

Stfu, the left waging war on women? You are almost too stupid to insult.

I will shit on your stupid redneck cranium if it's the last thing I do. Special thanks to the worldwide internet for making shit like that easy!!

So let me guess - Calla is somehow blaming Democrats for the majority Republicans being unable to pass their own legislation? Typical. Somehow, in some way, every Republican failure is the fault of Democrats. And even the victories they love to crow about - like Dear Leader beating Hillary and Kamala - is somehow chalked up to Democratic failures or weakness, not because Trump himself is actually popular. Even when they have total control of all levels of government and are gleefully riding roughshod over DC Democrats and the supposed "Deep State" Republicans still persist in seeing themselves as underdog outsiders. I hate to tell them, but they're the Deep State now, and they can no longer credibly play the victim or keep pretending that they're the underdogs, not that they ever really were.

I understand enough to know that the voters in your party repeatedly talk about how out of touch their representatives are and this is just another example of that. And that your party’s messaging is shit so I’m good with the way the vote went down because:

Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you” has instantly taken its place alongside the most effective political slogans in American election history, with “Morning in America”, the iconic ad that launched Ronald Reagan’s 1984 campaign and Barack Obama’s 2008 slogan: “Yes We Can”.

So then why didn’t Republicans get 60 votes if this is such a no-brainer of a popular piece of legislation supported by even the broad Democratic base? Should have been a walk in the park to get that sucker passed!

Blaming? I’m celebrating today’s vote. An overwhelming majority support the ban but every dem senator voted against it. That’s gold for the midterms. And since this thread is about the dem party being out of touch, this was just another example.

I cannot possibly beg the Republican Party enough to run on the transgender issue next fall, when inflation is at 8%, unemployment is at 6%, GDP growth is backpedaling faster than a defensive back trying not to get beat over the top, and we’re in the deepest and most prolonged recession in decades all because of Trump’s braindead economic policies. Cannot beg them enough. Please do it, Pubs. We believe in you! Tell MeeMaw and PeePaw that they might have lost their Medicaid and their disability and their veterans benefits and their cheap prescriptions, but by golly those four or five transgender people don’t get to play sports!

Cannot. beg. them. enough.

Dems have no leadership. Jasmin Crocket and JB Pritzker appear to have a pulse, though.

American actually agree with Dems POLICIES.

Dems have milquetoasted their response against mis/disinformation.
Lol you think saying fuck off = leadership? You guys have leaders but you seem to focus on the wrong ones.

If that happens then you may have a point. Until then, you guys seem to mis every single chance to show you have an ounce of common sense. Today was just another example of shooting yourselves ti the ass.

So, you don't actually care about the issues? Or at least this one in particular? I'm trying to figure out where on the hypocrisy scale this registers. This does give an awful lot of insight into why you thought we would all be happy about the way the Trump/Vance/Zelinski meltdown went.

Newsflash...my brain isn't controlled by party based animus the way yours is.

Oh they absolutely will, I guarantee you. That's what they've really been running on for decades - culture war issues. "Maybe you've lost your home and are living out of your fifteen-year old car going from town to town begging for work, and we've cut the social safety net so there's nothing for you to fall back on, but look over here at this transgender person! Your family is starving, but it's all worth it to keep this person from playing women's sports, ain't it?"
