Yep. Our reality show society elected themselves a reality show president. It's bread and circuses time in the good 'ol US of A. If many Trumpers are at an economic dead end in their dying small towns and cities and they're miserable, at least they can get some joy in life by watching fake "reality" shows with scripted actors (some of whom, like the two leads of Chrisley Knows Best, have been sent to prison), and by electing a reality show president to wreck the jobs and lives of more prosperious blue voters and make them just as miserable as they are. "Misery loves company" indeed.

No, I am not the enemy because I find uncommon ways to describe gender dysphoria and a humorous way to reference not giving a single shit what consenting adults do in private. I am much more like the average centrist voter than many here are.

The problem is that realistic liberals may not be that common and, if they are, aren't willing to speak reasonably in public or are afraid to speak reasonably in public.

I was pro-gay marriage before Obama was.

Is that because of who you are, or bad choices you make (and then foist upon the rest of us)? The difference is that the existence of gay people or trans people bugs you out. The existence of Republicans does not do that for me, except when you all send the world into a chaos spiral not seen since the Great Depression.

If someone wanted to break the US economy and government, Elon and Trump have provided a road map. That their actions are indistinguishable from an enemy of the US should give you pause.

I never thought sinking to their level was necessary, but 6-3 justices, and all 3 branches while they are eliminating millions of jobs and services to people, make my job 100% necessary

I'm far from trans, I have interacted with maybe 5 trans folks, all pretty cool. You talk like gender preferences is a made up thing, not constructed by humans. I have had Calla and Zen on ignore for a good while and am very happy I did so, but I decided today to "un-ignore" them to read their posts and see if I had missed anything. It's good to know that I haven't missed a blessed thing, as they are both still doing their same schtick they were when I put them on ignore. With Zen it's just being deliberately dense in arguments, arguing in circles, and taking threads as far off-tangent as possible, and Calla just keeps repeating the same Trumper and right-wing media talking points over and over and over. Watch Fox & Newsmax and you pretty much know what he's going to say about every issue.

Many Americans say they do not believe the Democratic Party is focused on the economic issues that matter most to them and is instead placing too much emphasis on social issues that they consider less urgent.

Asked to identify the Democratic Party’s most important priorities, Americans most often listed abortion, L.G.B.T.Q. rights and climate change, according to a poll from The New York Times and Ipsos conducted from Jan. 2 to 10.

The issues that people cited as most important to them personally were the economy and inflation, health care and immigration, the poll found. The kinds of social causes that progressive activists have championed in recent years ranked much lower.

As Democrats gather in Washington this weekend to elect the next chairman of their party, and debate how to most effectively counter the Trump administration, the latest public opinion surveys contain worrisome signs for them.

The country remains deeply divided over Mr. Trump’s leadership, with roughly equal shares of people saying that his second term is cause for celebration or concern.

But the poll suggests that people do not view the Democratic Party as an appealing alternative.

In a broad sense, the poll, which surveyed a representative sample of 2,128 adults nationwide, found that Americans think the Republican Party is more in sync with the mood of the country. The issues that people said mattered most to Republicans were also, for the most part, the issues that mattered to them: immigration, the economy, inflation and taxes.

First, and perhaps the only time, I will weigh in on this. I get it. Totally get it. I can see that... "many Americans say..."

That statement is actually a no brainer. Most Americans these days would say that. And they would be correct.

The Dems have been working the social issues hard for a long time now. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I'm socially progressive myself. I'm all in on some LGBTQ rights; Green this and that; Black Lives Matter; Long live Ukraine. I'm a modern day Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger. My guitar (machine) kills fascists.

But I can totally see where "Many Americans" would say: "OK. We get it. However, I can't pay my rent. My job doesn't pay me enough. Eggs... inflation... housing... childcare... waste in Government... screw Ukraine, what about Detroit?"

These "many Americans" probably don't really give a shit about a wedding cake for a gay couple. They don't care... bake the cake, don't bake the cake... fuck it... they don't care. Or if a transgender can or can't participate in an NCAA or Olympic sport. Let 'em play, don't let 'em play. Screw it... they don't really have a horse in that race. They don't care. What they do care about is making ends meet. Period.

The right wing assholes have done a marvelous job of "marketing" the fact that the Dems are spending too much time, energy and money on these social issues. They've used this fact as a cudgel against Dem candidates. And the Dems have continually stepped right into that "trap". The evidence of which resides in D.C. and in Raleigh and in your County's Commission.

It’s reasonable to argue that transgender athletes should be barred from competing in sports against opponents who were born of a different sex. There’s certainly middle ground for compromise.

It’s entirely unreasonable to argue that gender affirming healthcare should be made illegal. There is no middle ground for compromise here. Healthcare is a basic human right, and it is nobody’s business but that of the individual patient and their physician. It certainly is not the business of any politicians.

Guess which one the Republicans are hellbent on eliminating?
