I can't be optimistic as all of you in a swing back. They know the coalition won't last; they're taking steps to destroy the system so it doesn't need a coalition. This is a permanent power grab. They aren't planning on winning again; they are planning on cancelling anything that resembles a fair contest. DOJ is being purged. Military is next. They are taking control of who has the power in all other government activities. They are creating a dependent class of people who are forced to submit or face the closed fist of the executive branch. And no one is coming to save us.
And we’ve been warning people about this since 2015, at least in terms of trump.

They haven’t had an overtly Christian character in 20 years? Holy moly.
Probably one of the fastest shrinking demographics, as it should be in an educated society. I guess, with the administration abolishing the Department of Education, they anticipate a reversal. I expect that's a better story than admitting they are afraid of Trump's blackmail tactics.

No the democratic party values are fine. It's just people started to listen to BS because it seems to lineup with what they believe. LGTBQ, roe, anti discrimination. These are all basic rights and freedoms. Even anti Vax is a target against other peoples freedoms. What these people who say the Democratic party doesn't fit their values, it's because they believe their values to be more important than other peoples values. Their freedom to be more precious then other people's freedoms. Democratic party doesn't need to change their values. They just have to do a better job of showing the American people why they are the ones truly working for the American people.

One of the most depressing things about Trump 2.0 has been how easily and quickly nearly every corporation, news media organization, educational organizations and schools, and the like has just rolled over for Trump and done whatever he wanted. I'm sure some will argue that it shouldn't be surprising, but it's still something to see companies noted for their once-proud liberalism and promotion of diversity - Disney, Target, the Washington Post, the NY Times, the College Board (which manages AP courses), the list just goes on and on. Is there no one willing to speak up and and out against this guy, or in favor of diversity initiatives? It's one thing for Dear Leader and Musk to seize power, it's another to see them to do it with the complicit or open support of nearly every major corporation and news media site and other institutions.

Of course, that's how the Nazis did it in Germany, so I guess maybe it does fit. It's just so damned depressing to see though, especially at how "elastic" and feckless all of these companies and organizations turned out to be.

But Christians still make up a big chunk of the population. Crazy that it’s been 20 years.

This corporation has been active in speaking out against Trump. I suggest everyone buy their spices from them.

The latest RLS, fielded over seven months in 2023-24, finds that 62% of U.S. adults identify as Christians. That is a decline of 9 percentage points since 2014 and a 16-point drop since 2007.

But for the last five years, between 2019 and 2024, the Christian share of the adult population has been relatively stable, hovering between 60% and 64%.

I see your point, but were you really counting on Target to lead the revolution?

Gil Scott Heron wrote a famous poem about how the revolution wouldn't be televised. He did not write a sequel, called The Revolution Will Not Be On Sale At Sears, probably because he thought it a thing too obvious to mention.

After I said that, I went looking and found that. Read a lot of it. They do pretty good research and are just interested in crunching the numbers. Been doing it long enough that they have a good base to put stuff like this in perspective.

That number still kinda amazes me. When I was a kid, something like 93% considered themselves Christian.

I never would have guessed 60%+. That’s surprisingly high but as a Christian as I like it.

I looked briefly and couldn't find where I read this so I don't want to speak to reliability but I saw that much of this is a political thing. Membership has increased in evangelical and/or independent churches but the % of the membership in church every week has decreased. You can assign your own values to that but I can't think of a time in history when mixing religion and politics wasn't toxic.

Is that it, they are rolling over? Or is it that the election just provided them a significant marketing data point?

I didn't expect Target to lead the revolution, but simply holding the line on their pro-diversity policies from just 2 or 3 years ago would be nice. I'm well aware that corporations are fickle and only care about profits, but it's still depressing to see how easily so many organizations - and not just corporations - have bent to Trump's bullying and threats.

So our increase in population has been heavily "latino" Gotta be 90% Christian Surprisng number at 62% overall
