Mark Robinson thread | Report - Pressure on Robinson to drop out?

This does reek of the NCGOP trying to get CNN/WRAL to drop the story so they can ditch Robinson. The Carolina Journal article claims the Stein campaign leaked the story to the media.

“My phone is blowing up today with calls and texts from Republican sources in North Carolina who are waiting with bated breath about a huge story CNN is reportedly about to drop on this year’s gubernatorial nominee, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson.

The CNN article focuses on unsavory comments Robinson made in several online chatrooms, according to sources familiar with the material.

If what I’m hearing is correct, this story will nuke Robinson’s already dwindling chances of flipping termed-out Democratic governor Roy Cooper’s seat. Today is the drop-out deadline in North Carolina, though ballots are already being printed. …”

I'm calling BS on the Nazism thing. My (uninformed) opinion is that this is put out by his own campaign, so that when the story drops they can say "see, it was just sex and not Nazism like those lying liberals were trying to say".

I could be wrong. Could also be his campaign trying to get out ahead of some actual damaging online comments.

I do think that the fact that the source for the tweet was his own campaign speaks volumes in and of itself.

“North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein (D) has rejected a debate with Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) in their gubernatorial race, citing the many controversial statements the GOP nominee has made throughout his career.

Stein campaign spokeswoman Kate Frauenfelder said in a statement that engaging with Robinson for a debate would only give him a platform to spread “his vile and dangerous rhetoric.” …”

Tonight is the deadline to withdraw from the race, btw.
The deadline was two weeks ago. This is a new NC Supreme Court created deadline. Who's to say they won't make another exception?

Ah, the statute says "A person who has been declared the nominee of a political party for a specified office under the provisions of G.S. 163-182.15 or G.S. 163-110, shall not be permitted to resign as a candidate unless, prior to the first day on which military and overseas absentee ballots are transmitted to voters under Article 21A of this Chapter, that [the] person submits to the board of elections which certified the nomination a written request that person be permitted to withdraw. "

And that deadline was two weeks ago. But this says prior to the first day on which military and overseas ballots ARE transmitted. So the NC court, giving RFK the ability to delay the distribution of ballots, also gave Robinson an extension. But I doubt they will delay the ballot printing AGAIN, so if he withdraws, his name will be on the ballot.

Agreed. We have seen that Nazism is not a disqualifier for any Republican politician.

Honestly, I think the only pub "unforgivable" that could emerge is child porn/solicitation, and that's only because Robinson is underwater in the polls. Frankly, I doubt either and will continue to assume this is a gqp driven strategic hit piece because ttump is at risk.
