Agreed. At this point, I think Cooper and Jackson are the only viable candidates, and I do think we need Jeff to wait for 2028. I agree that Josh Stein will probably run for governor.

I’m still irritated that Jeff was asked to step aside to make room for Cheryl Beasley in the last senate race. And I say that as a black woman. We cannot lose focus again.
NC Democrats have made terrible choices in Senate candidates since at least 2020 - Cunningham and then Beasley were terrible candidates who both lost winnable elections. If Trump, RFK, Jr. and Musk do even half of what they're promising then there is likely going to be a huge backlash in 2026, and I would think that Cooper will have a good shot against Tillis, who barely beat a scandal-marred Cunningham in 2020. And I agree about Beasley, I met her once when she was the NC Chief Justice and she was a nice person, but she was a poor candidate and campaigner.

A night where the Dems won almost all the key statewide races (including the governor's mansion by like 20 points) is a weird night to conclude that North Carolina is bad and supports GOP candidates who believe in slavery and love the Nazis.
Agreed, you can’t pay the whole state with that brush. 40% of NC voters did support Robinson.

I still don't understand all the NC splitting. Broke the super-majority, Stein massively outgained Harris, Jackson beat Dan Bishop by 3%, Hunt beat Hal Weatherman by 2%. Stein v Mark Robinson makes some sense.

Jeff Jackson and Trump got about the same number of votes. Bishop is maga, but so is Trump.

Weatherman is maga, but no more extreme than Trump. He's probably less extreme than Bishop.

Hunt got 2,738,000 votes, Kamala got 2,684,509 a 53,451 difference. Were there really 53k Hunt voters that liked Trump more or chose to leave a blank? And all those Jackson & Stein voters preferred Trump or went blank? Racism?

The Hunt name alone could’ve been responsible for those 53,451 votes.

In this era of low-info voters? I consider myself somewhat engaged and had to google Hal Weatherman just to see if he's moderate or maga.

I mean, 53,000 isn’t *that* many people. There are at least that many people who would normally vote R for that position but like or have fond memories of Jim Hunt.

Off the top of my head...

1) Trumpism is a cult of personality.
2) Moderate voters who considered inflation and immigration as top issues blamed Biden/Harris, not down ballot candidates.
3) Racism and misogyny toward Harris.
4) Disinformationists focused their efforts on the Presidential race, not state level races.

Great point regarding #4. It is easy to lie about national things, less so about state level. Not as many people in Ohio believed the pet-eating story, ditto about "hoards of invaders", etc.

Might have already been shared but here is the state board of elections website where you can view results by county and precinct within a county. I find it interesting to drill down into different areas....

It's crazy to see the high percentage of votes Robinson got in some of these red counties. Like, not even close. Stay klassy, Stokes County.

There was shitload of disinformation aimed at Jeff Jackson by GOP PACs supporting Dan Bishop.
