I would love to meet people here, but I'm sure as the date approached, I would grow self-conscious and find a reason to not make it.

Lack of social skills is my superpower.
I don't have any social skills ,either but I went to a bunch because a lot were within walking distance at the time.

My theory has always been that if you don't really fit in anywhere, you're just as well off everywhere.

I've been lucky enough to meet a number of the women posters. I've been to Bayheel's old house for a cookout, had drinks with Periwinkle, met NCgirlinFlorida a couple of times. I think one of the biggest losses to the messageboards I've been on was Geecheeheel. She was the driving force behind Wenchfest and seemed to seemed to be such a strong focal point for so many of the other women posters.

I'm down whenever, and I bring good whiskey.

The mention of NewOldGuy….

That theatre script he put together about Duke assistant coaches going out recruiting was just incredible. One of the funniest things I’ve ever read.

Pep was terrific.

How’s kik84?

Anyone recall fungo from TarHeelTalk?

Brownie?
not sure I recall fungo, but I recall mungo's lawyer and mungo's lawyer's lawyer

Geechee was a huge loss, especially for the BoB. She was one of the pillars of the board and her loss (along with a number of others) took away what was special about the place.

My ability for meetups IRL have been limited because I always lived in different states. When I lived in LA, I did manage to meet Hollywood Square and LuridHam on a couple of occasions. When 69 was in LA for business, we had a small get together with altmin and HeelsandDores (the only woman ZZLer I have met.)

When I was in Pittsburgh on business for a few days many years back I met a ZZLer for a drink. I can't recall his name but he had the avatar that was the penguin pushing its mate through the ice. He did undergrad at Davidson and law school at UNC. I know some of y'all know who I'm talking about......he was a mod for a while and made a transition from a fairly moderate/mainstream poster to a grumpy contrarian/conservative during his posting years.

gr111 or something like that.

Yep. That's it. gr1111. Several people have noted I'm the only poster to have met gr1111 IRL.

That was gr1111111. Was he the same in real life as he was as a poster? He was one of our original contrarians. And despite his law degree, he didn’t seem particularly knowledgeable on the law.

He was very quiet and reserved, not much of a conversationalist. At the time he was working for Klett Rooney (the Rooney in Klett Rooney is the owner of the Steelers, and that firm has since merged with a much larger firm in PGH.). My company was HQed in PGH and before we left he asked about the the legal representation of my employer. I told him we had in-house counsel and he handled any external legal relationships. He gave me his card and asked me to pass it to my coworker. My coworker later called me and told me he did speak with gr1111 and was invited to a Steelers game in Klett Rooney's suite which he accepted, but nothing ever came of it. I believe he is still working for the merged firm which I think is Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.
