I am struck by how many unserious people are in power to influence very serious and grave circumstances. I thought there was no way I would live long enough to see a worse VP and Secretary of Defense than lil Bush’s. Yet here we are and it is an entire cabinet of people worse than Donald Rumsfeld.

So, Russia sends a plan, 100% percent written by Russia, to the US and demands that (a) the US present it as its own plan, (b) the US not change a word, comma, period in the entire plan other than translate it from Russian into English and (c) when the US complies like the faithful lapdog it is, . . ., Russia denounces the plan as not enough. The United States had a chance to recover (maybe even learn) from one term with St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago in the White House. But there's no way we come back from two terms.

I'm 71, what are the chances that I can live out the rest of my live in my home as opposed to living out the rest of my life in a box on the street because my home was bulldozed to make way for a golf course? When stuff like that happens to people, bad things follow. Which probably is Vlad "the Ras" Putin's endgame.

I have little doubt that the plan the US presented was written by US officials.

I also have little doubt that it is essentially a Russian plan and starting point for negotiations.

Trump is Putin's lapdog and I have very little doubt that his administration cribbed heavily from Russian sources to create the "US plan".

My only hope is that Europe will stand strongly enough with Ukraine that Ukraine isn't forced to largely accept it.

I agree with all you say. A key question I have is whether if Europe stands with Ukraine, then does that, by necessity, mean that Europe must stand against the United States. A united Europe would be a formidable force. But a united Europe has no chance against a united Russia and US. As long as St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago is in office, the United States in nothing more than Putin's hand puppet.

Ravid is extremely well-sourced in the Trump Administration and in Israel, and his reporting on the Middle East has been vital of colored by where he has sources, but he has looked like an open shill for the Trump Admin. in Ukraine/Russia matters.

There must be more to this story. Russian ships, including military vessels, have the right to transit through the English channel.
And British ships have the right to escort them through. Nothing in the link suggests they were diverted or otherwise interfered with.

Yes but I don't get this quote or the need for an article at all for routine traffic. Unless slow news day.

"Defence Secretary John Healey branded the Yantar's move "deeply dangerous" and warned Russia and its president Vladimir Putin: "We see you. We know what you're doing. We are ready.""

I don't think that Trump is an actual leader in any real sense of the term, which helps us in this case.

I can't see the US taking a proactive pro-Russian stance and certainly not doing anything which would draw us into a real role in the conflict. My strong hunch is that we'll continue to do what we've been doing; taking a front-line "leadership" role far away from the actual conflict. Under Trump, we'll be more aligned with Russia than we'd be under almost any other administration, but Trump is highly unlikely to actually go to war on Russia/Putin's behalf and instead will try to continue to play the middle with a pro-Russian bent.

Trump, at heart, is a toady, not a person of real strength. And while he'll bend closest to the "strongest" person in this situation - Putin - I'd be amazed if he's strong enough to actually stand up to Zelenskyy or other European leaders.

I don't so much fear us coming out as completely pro-Russia in this conflict as much as shrinking back so far that we refrain from helping Ukraine, specifically, and Europe, more generally; the folks who should be our clear allies in this situation.

According to Wiki, the Yantar is a spy ship and controls mini subs that can sever cables. A close escort seems more than fair.
