It seems to me that Trump and his campaign knew who were they were dealing with and understood that Russia was working on their behalf. It appears it was more an unholy alliance than a case of morons being unknowingly manipulated.

It was a whole lot of other contacts besides that Trump Tower meeting, many of them not so direct. Your interpretation of that meeting is a credible one, but the Mueller Report found that they could not conclude for certain that the Trump campaign knew they were dealing with Russian intelligence.

...and most of those from the Trump campaign that contacted Russia were indicted and many of that cohort went to prison.

Well, they lost as many military fighting for us as Israel, cost us less, sold fewer of our secrets and killed fewer of our sailors. Israel be the current favorite to be our #1 ally, wouldn't they?

"Corrupt or just really dumb" has unfortunately become an all-too-familiar exercise with today's right wing politicians, operatives, influencers, and media.
